Anatomy of a K drama Scene: Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin’s ‘candle’ Crash Landing on You moment is truly underrated – PINKVILLA

In the latest edition of Anatomy of a K-drama Scene, we look at an underrated romantic moment between Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin in Crash Landing on You where the former uses a scented candle to find the latter.

Crash Landing on You has already reached cult status, even though if it just aired between 2019 to 2020. One of the biggest reasons why CLOY became such a worldwide hit is because of the palpable chemistry shared between Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin as star-crossed lovers. While Bin played the reserved North Korean captain Ri Jung-hyuk, Ye-jin portrayed the confident South Korean heiress Yoon Se-ri.

*SPOILERS ALERT* In today's pick for Anatomy of a K-drama Scene, we take a look at one of the underrated romantic sequences between Jung-hyuk and Se-ri which would flutter the coldest of hearts. While their reunion and kissing sequences are the perfect K-drama moments, we're specifically talking about the scented candle moment from CLOY Ep 5. For some context, as Se-ri heads to the market during her free time, she gets separated from her ladies squad, is lost and finds it hard to trace back Jung-hyuk's address. Moreover, as it's late at night, her sense of direction is even more diluted.

When Jung-hyuk finds out that Se-ri has gotten lost, he cycles his way quickly to the market but can't seem to find her. Eventually, he remembers her obsession with scented candles and buys one, lighting it and holding it high above his head in the hopes of Se-ri walking towards the light. With Davichi's Sunsetfrom CLOY OST as the perfect background score, Se-ri's worrisome face changes into a moment of reflection as she realises its Jung-hyuk, who comes as a literal knight in shining armour rescuing her, always at the right place and at the right time. As she walks towards him, Jung-hyuk breathes a sigh of relief and says, "This time, it's not just a candle but a scented one. Right?" To which, Se-ri smiles bright and says back a simple, "Right."

This scene may seem like a simple cutesy moment between the two main leads but holds a much more meaningful stance as it conveys how important Se-ri has become for Jung-hyuk. Especially, knowing the fact that the two can't be together given the literal 'border' problem between them. Yet, when knowing that Se-ri is in trouble, Jung-hyuk drops everything and goes searching for her. While stoic in nature, you see a change in Jung-hyuk thanks to Se-ri. On the other hand, Se-ri, who has had her fair share of forgettable flings find a safe space in Jung-hyuk, confirming that he'll be there for her, no matter what.

An underrated moment which has so many thoughts and emotions. And, that's all because of a scented candle.

Anatomy of a K drama Scene: How food was used as a symbol of Kim Seon Ho’s love confession to Suzy in Start Up – PINKVILLA

*SPOILERS ALERT* Heading into finale week of Start-Up, we decode an endearing lunch sequence when Han Ji-pyeong (Kim Seon-ho) confessed his true feelings to Seo Dal-mi (Suzy) over a bowl of noodles.

We're just two days away from Start-Up's finale weekend, which will finally answer the biggest question that has caused a major Twitter debate: Who should Seo Dal-mi (Suzy) have her happy ending with; Nam Do-san (Nam Joo-hyuk) or Han Ji-pyeong (Kim Seon-ho). On one hand, we can argue that Do-san is the one for Dal-mi as she's made it known that she has feelings for him.

On the other hand, Ji-pyeong's letters also play a key role with many fans having major second lead syndrome, still hoping for a JiDal endgame over a DoDal endgame. *SPOILERS ALERT* In today's edition of Anatomy of a K-drama Scene, we look into a heartwarming moment shared between Ji-pyeong and Dal-mi as the former confesses his feelings to the latter. While Dal-mi is shattered to know the truth about the letters, actually being written by Ji-pyeong, the latter confronts her in a restaurant over lunch.

From the very get-go, you notice how subtly Ji-pyeong takes care of Dal-mi. Whether it be having lunch with her so she doesn't have to shift to an uncomfortable seat and eating alone or even clearing out the table, placing the tissue for her along with chopsticks, pouring and passing her a glass of water and even going to the extent of mixing the noodles (bimbim guksu) before starting up on his own. It may not as grand as Do-san's gestures but it's equally important.

Now, let's get down to the best bit; food! Food has always played a major aspect in dramas and this Start-Up sequence is no different. Noodles in Korean is guksu, which is a symbol for 'a long and prosperous life.' Besides having noodles on birthdays, they say you must have noodles at a wedding as well with the symbolism being a long and prosperous life for the newlyweds. Hence, while keeping Do-san in the good light and not undermining his feelings for Dal-mi, Ji-pyeong confesses his own feelings to Dal-mi over a bowl of noodles.

"I like you. I didn't know I'd say this while mixing noodles. I have feelings for you, Ms. Seo. I'm telling you this to be honest, not to make you uncomfortable. It's just how I feel. I don't expect an answer so don't let it bother you. I don't want us to end up avoiding each other because of this. That'd be pathetic. Dig in before the noodles get soggy," Ji-pyeong reveals. What makes this moment even more heartwarming if his next line: "Oh, the pine nut kalguksu that you got me... it was delicious," with a dimpled smile in tow. In context, Ji-pyeong had lied to Dal-mi earlier that he would travel all the way to Gapyeong just to eat pine nut kalgusku, a supposed favourite of his. Again, we see how noodles play a big symbol when it comes to Ji-pyeong and Dal-mi's relationship.

In another episode, when they talk over dinner after SamSan Tech's disbanding, the pair again eat noodles with Ji-pyeong even quipping how whenever they eat together, it's always guksu. The guksu theory has become a fan-favourite amongst JiDal shippers who are still having the minutest of hope when it comes to the two possibly ending up together.

After his love confession, which seemed as though Ji-pyeong was super confident in his approach actually was a ploy as revealed by the character himself in the epilogue of the same episode. Encountering Lee Bo-young's (cameo appearance) scam artist after Dal-mi, Ji-pyeong confesses how nervous he truly was while confessing his feelings to Dalmi. The intricate nature in which his confession was dealt with and the parallel nature deserves a top hat!

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Will Jackson and Jo Become a Real Thing? Some Fans Are Already Calling Them Their Favorite New Couple – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

A new romance has started to emerge during the first few episodes of Greys Anatomy in season 17 and fans are already divided. In the premiere, Jo Karev (Camilla Luddington) asked Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) for a sexual favor that didnt go as planned. But by episode 3, the odd couple had officially hooked up. While some fans are already calling Jo and Jackson their favorite couple, others dont want to watch Jackson get attached to another doctor at Grey Sloan Memorial.

When season 17 premiered, fans knew that the staff at Grey Sloan would be in the middle of the COVID pandemic. However, showrunner Krista Vernoff didnt tease any new romances. When Jo asked Jackson for a hookup in the premiere even though they had never so much as flirted, it was a big shock to fans.

No one saw this coming, and Greys Anatomy fans took to Twitter to share their opinions on the controversial pairing. Many pointed out that they are tired of seeing Jackson jumping from woman to woman. At the same time, others believe that Jo isnt over her husband, Alex Karev (Justin Chambers).

Last season, Alex unexpectedly left Jo for his ex-wife Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) when Justin Chambers exited the series. This did not sit well with fans because it went against everything he believed in. That one decision destroyed 16 seasons of character development for Alex and sent Jo on a cringeworthy path that many fans are having a hard time watching.

Anyone else think that Jackson & Jo getting together is weird asf or just me?? #GreysAnatomy, one fan wrote. Another added, I dont like it. EW!! Jackson & Jo. EW! #GreysAnatomy. A third fan stated, This Jackson and Jo sh*t is pure Trash. #GreysAnatomy.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Luddington discussed her character moving on from her ex-husband while looking back on her controversial season 16 storyline. She says that she wants whats best for Jo but admits her breakup with Alex was shocking.

It did feel like probably the only way that [Alex] would leave her, I couldnt really imagine another way, Luddington explained. So in order for them to break up, it, to me, did make sense, even though it was really shocking.

RELATED: Greys Anatomy Fans Have Strong Opinions On How Showrunners Are Dealing With Justin Chambers Mysterious Exit

Luddington explained that Jo and Alex loved each other for a long time, and there was a lot of good that came out of that relationship. As Jo continues to work on herself and her mental health, Luddington believes fans will see her slowly but surely come out of this stronger.

Luddington says that season 17 will see Jo face a lot of new challenges. She says her character will have moments when she doesnt want to go to work because she finds it really difficult, stressful, and depressing. Through her struggles, Luddington believes Jo is looking for comfort and friendship.

Even though some Greys Anatomy fans are already calling Jo and Jackson their favorite couple, Luddington believes this relationship is more of a seed of friendship right now.

I think that Jo shouldnt jump into anything serious right now, Luddington revealed. But I think if something organically happens, Im down. I obviously live and breathe this character and just want her to be happy. So if thats with Jackson Avery, its with Jackson Avery. If its with someone else, its with someone else.

Luddington is rooting for Jo to move on and find her true lover, her person. She also wants her character to have a family. The actress believes that is something her character is craving, and she loves that idea.

So I would like to see her happy with a partner, whoever that is and maybe some kids, Luddington said.

New episodes of Greys Anatomy air Thursday nights on ABC.

Editing the DNA of human embryos could protect us from future pandemics – The Conversation UK

Hollywood blockbusters such as X-men, Gattaca and Jurassic World have explored the intriguing concept of germline genome editing a biomolecular technique that can alter the DNA of sperm, eggs or embryos. If you remove a gene that causes a certain disease in an embryo, not only will the baby be free of the disease when born so will its descendants.

The technique is, however, controversial we cant be sure how a child with an altered genome will develop over a lifetime. But with the COVID-19 pandemic showing just how vulnerable human beings are to disease, is it time to consider moving ahead with it more quickly?

Theres now good evidence that the technique works, with research normally carried out on unviable embryos that will never result in a living baby. But in 2018, Chinese scientist He Jiankui claimed that the first gene-edited babies had indeed been born to the universal shock, criticism and intrigue of the scientific community.

This human germline genome editing (hGGe) was performed using the Nobel-prize winning CRISPR system, a type of molecular scissors that can cut and alter the genome at a precise location. Researchers and policy makers in the fertility and embryology space agree that it is a matter of when and not if hGGe technologies will become available to the general public.

In 2016, the UK became the first country in the world to formally permit three-parent babies using a genetic technique called mitochondrial replacement therapy replacing unhealthy mitochondria (a part of the cell that provides energy) with healthy ones from a donor.

Scientists are now discussing genome editing in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, one could use CRISPR to disable coronaviruses by scrambling their genetic code. But we could also edit peoples genes to make them more resistant to infection for example by targeting T cells, which are central in the bodys immune response. There are already CRISPR clinical trials underway that look to genome edit T cells in cancer patients to improve anti-tumour immunity (T cells attacking the tumour).

This type of gene editing differs to germline editing as it occurs in non-reproductive cells, meaning genetic changes are not heritable. In the long term, however, it may be more effective to improve T-cell responses using germline editing.

Its easy to see the allure. The pandemic has uncovered the brutal reality that the majority of countries across the world are completely ill equipped to deal with sudden shocks to their, often, already overstretched healthcare systems. Significantly, the healthcare impacts are not only felt on COVID patients. Many cancer patients, for instance, have struggled to access treatments or diagnosis appointments in a timely manner during the pandemic.

This also raises the possibility of using hGGe techniques to tackle serious diseases such as cancer to protect healthcare systems against future pandemics. We already have a wealth of information that suggests certain gene mutations, such as those in the BRCA2 gene in women, increase the probability of cancer development. These disease genetic hotspots provide potential targets for hGGe therapy.

Furthermore, healthcare costs for diseases such as cancer will continue to rise as drug therapies continue to become more personalised and targeted. At this point, wouldnt gene editing be simpler and cheaper?

As we approach the mezzo point of the 21st century, it is fair to say that COVID-19 could prove to be just the start of a string of international health crises that we encounter. A recent report by the UN Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) emphasised the clear connection between global pandemics and the loss of biodiversity and climate change. Importantly, the report delivers the grim future prediction of more frequent pandemics, which may well be deadlier and more devastating than COVID-19.

It isnt just more viral pandemics that we might have to face in the future. As our global climate changes, so will the transmission rates of other diseases such as malaria. If malaria begins presenting itself in locations with unprepared healthcare systems, the impacts on healthcare provision could be overwhelming.

Interestingly, there is a way to protect people from malaria introducing a single faulty gene for the sickle cell anaemia. One copy of this faulty gene gives you a level of protection against malaria. But if two people with a single faulty gene have a baby, the child could develop sickle cell anaemia. This shows just how complicated gene editing can be you can edit genes to protect a population against one disease, but potentially causing trouble in other ways.

Despite the first hGGe humans already having been born, the reality is that the technique wont be entering our mainstream lives any time soon. The UK Royal Society recently stated that heritable genome editing is not ready to be tried in humans safely, although it has urged that if countries do approve hGGe treatment practices, it should focus on specific diseases that are caused by single specific genes, such as sickle cell anaemia and cystic fibrosis. But, as we have seen, it may not make sense to edit out the former in countries with high rates of malaria.

Other major challenges for researchers is unintended genetic modifications at specific sites of the genome which this could lead to a host of further complications to the genome network. The equitable access of treatment provides another sticking point. How would hGGe be regulated and paid for?

The world is not currently ready for hGGe technologies and any progress in this field is likely to occur at a very incremental pace. That being said, this technology will eventually come to feature in humanity for disease prevention. The big question is simply when?. Perhaps the answer depends on the severity and frequency of future health crises.

The COVID-19 Rapid Test Will Be Produced In Greece Quickly – Greek City Times – GreekCityTimes.com

The Ministry of Development announced a great scientific achievement of four universities and six research centers, the creation of a Greek rapid COVID-19 test.

All the necessary documents were immediately sent to the Industrial Property Organization for the patent, which makes the test almost one hundred percent accurate.

The core of the research team consists of six people led by Professor Vassilis Gorgoulis.

Every day since February 17 they have met in the laboratory of Histology and Embryology of the Medical School of Athens with the aim of understanding and treating the COVID-19 infection, including with rapid tests.

The first step for the Greek antigen rapid test was to first produce the appropriate cells in the microbiological laboratory, from the experimental animals, which release the antibodies.

Then follows the fusion process.

At this stage, a large amount of antibodies are produced.

The third and possibly most critical step is the process of selecting the most appropriate antibody.

Here we came up with the monoclonal antibodies, Konstantinos Evangelou, a member of the research team and associate professor at the Medical School of EKPA, told state-owned AMNA.

Monoclonal is an antibody that accurately identifies the key/lock antigen against which it has been produced. In other words, it is highly specialized, very special, he added.

The bet now is to find a company that can mass produce monoclonal antibodies to assist the rapid tests.

For this reason, in the middle of last week, there was a teleconference attended by many ministers and the head of the research team, Vassilis Gorgoulis.

We are in discussions with some companies to see how we can take advantage of this very important development, for the benefit of public health, said the Deputy Minister of Research and Technology, Christos Dimas, to AMNA about the rapid tests.

Since there are Greek companies that can make this large-scale production, I consider it a matter of national interest, national mobilization, for this to take place. It is a national obligation, Evangelou emphasized.

We have to look at the national interest. Anyone who does not join this effort will have a responsibility to the Greek people, he added.

The aim is to produce the product in Greece in order to reduce costs and make the price more competitive in relation to the antigen rapid tests imported mainly from Belgium.

In parallel with this effort for rapid tests, the Ministry of Development is funding research into the genetic analysis of the virus genome, as well as the hosts. In other words, people who have been infected with COVID-19.

In the first findings from the analysis of the genome, variants of the virus have been identified. Now, it is being examined whether these variants affect his behavior and make him more contagious.

The next step is the creation of a National Covid Database which will have great bio-analytical value for scientists.
