Expand your understanding of anatomy at ‘Bodies The Exhibition’ in Las Vegas – Lasvegasmagazine
Most visitors to Las Vegas have an idea of what they want to do before they get here. Theres gaming, of course, and destination dining. There are shows wherever one stays and shopping within walking distance of any GPS coordinates on the Strip. There are golf tee-offs to schedule and salon or spa appointments to make, while more casual afternoons can be spent checking out attractions such as Titanic and Bodies The Exhibition.
While the former will hit the spot for fans of James Camerons 1997 film epic, the latter provides an option to leisurely while away an hour of daytime while expanding ones knowledge about anatomy. Bodies breaks down the systems that make up the whole of human beings into sub exhibits, deconstructs the physical makeup of the organs that work together to create the organisms that are us, and displays dissected biped specimens that once walked the Earth.
Preserved cadavers may not be everyones cup of tea, but Bodies provides an opportunity for people who were or are interested in medicine or osteopathy to spend a fascinating hour among muscles, bones, brains, pulmonary parts, and digestive features. A polymer process enables the exhibition of corporeal subjects in various states of dissection, with one separated into a standing stack of slices, or coronal plane, and another laid out in repose and transversely sectioned.
Fans of special effects or forensic procedural series should add to Bodies to their Vegas itineraries for the visuals, but trivia fans will find an unexpected treasure trove of interesting facts to absorb. There are 100 miles of blood vessels filtering the fluid of life inside kidneys, for example. The central part of the thoracic cavity is called the mediastinum. The mitral valve controls the flow of blood between the hearts left atrium and left ventricle. People are born with innate preferences for sweet or salty.
Learn how the heart works. Find out what the four major divisions of the brain and the four types of post-traumatic stress disorder are. See a healthy vertebral column next to one afflicted with scoliosis. The presenters of Bodies bill the attraction as a visual textbook, a descendant of dissection practices with precedents among Renaissance artists and ancient scientists. Its more of a three-dimensional textbook that makes learning about anatomy practically effortless.
There is a room featuring stages of embryonic development with an advanced warning sign and a detour for patrons who would prefer to bypass it and move on to a gallery dedicated to prosthetics. Designer Sophie de Oliveira Barata of The Alternative Limb Project provided several of her blinged-out futuristic limbs for an installation on display throughout the summer, with video of models and their reimagined prosthetics supplementing the examples.
A better understanding of prosthetics caps an educational experience that doesnt stay in Las Vegas. Remembering the lessons of Bodies doesnt take additional study. The flow of the exhibit and its striking visual elements make it easy to store and recall anatomical knowledge long after a visit.

This Is The Anatomy Of Hot Milk’s New EP ‘The King And Queen Of Gasoline’ – ROCKSOUND.TV
Another step on the band's journey to the top.
Hot Milk are about to release their new EP 'The King And Queen Of Gasoline' via Music For Nations.
Their second release in just under a year, it is an expansion not just on their sound but their journey so far. A collection of reflective, raucous and rallying tracks, it's another snapshot of life within and outside the band that's as heartfelt as it is honest.
To dissect some of the elements that make it and the path to creating it, we chatted to Han Mee and Jim Shaw all about it...
WRITING SONGS THAT ARE MADE TO BE PLAYED LIVE AND LOUDJim: "Live is our bread and butter. It's the very reason that we started a band."
Han: "We got into this because we fell in love with playing rock shows, the culture that surrounds them, and the people we met through it. Rock and roll isn't just whacking a song on Spotify and hoping for the best. It's a real-life thing that you can experience, and that is where people find themselves. I want to be the best live band we can be, and we will write songs that will help us do that."
A REMINDER OF JUST HOW QUICKLY THINGS IN THIS LIFE CAN CHANGEJim: "It's hard to take stock and consider what this all means, just because things are so different this time compared to last time. This time last year, we were stagnant and sitting still, almost living this fantasy life. In a band, but not really in a band. And from the backend of last year into this year, it has been full throttle, and we haven't had a second to consider it."
Han: "We wrote these songs so fast. They were a pure reaction. Two of the songs we have been playing for a long time, and if we didn't put them out now, they would never come out. And we wrote the other four in three weeks in December. That's just how quickly it came to life. We wrote two in Jim's house and two in Los Angeles. But I feel that that pace has allowed them to have more action in them than before. Like, here we fucking go. This is us, whether we like it or not."
Jim: "It's quintessential Hot Milk just because it all came so very naturally."
Han: "But at the same time, what does that mean? That's kind of the beauty of this band, to be honest."
NOT LETTING ANYBODY TELL YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD AND SHOULDN'T BEHan: "We don't listen to the people that feel like they can tell us what Hot Milk is. Those rogue comments saying what we are doing right and wrong. I want to go around and knock on their door and get them to say it to my face. If you're going to say something, you should be prepared to back it up."
Jim: "If you're feeling a bit of a lack of confidence, it's easy for those comments to leak into your soul. But then you have to think that people are going to be people, but you can't let that derail what you're about."
Han: "It's all about being ourselves, and if that isn't enough for somebody, then that's their problem. Because all we can do is be ourselves and live freely. But it's nice when you see that freedom resonates with people. Throw parties, have a good time with my best friends and help people come out of their shells. I speak to people, and they say they almost feel empowered, and I wish I had that when I was younger. I think it's a beautiful way to run a band, having a space so open that things like that are possible."
BEING HONEST ABOUT WHO YOU ARE IN EVERY ASPECTHan: "I feel like this EP represents our darker side. The parts of us that keep on saying yes when we should probably say no. It means that we end up playing with that little bit too much fire, and we are incredibly flammable. We are two close to the line sometimes, which is how it is sometimes. I think there was a period of time where that was what I was doing all the time, and I think that's where the idea for it all came together. I realise now that I need to step back into the real world every now and then, but that alter ego will always be there. It never goes away."
Jim: "I feel like where the whole world was at the time, we were writing and forced to reflect on ourselves and what we were doing. Am I happy doing this? Is that the right way of doing it? That's what the last EP felt like. This one is us coming out the other end and trying to figure out the things that we learned along the way and the answers."
Han: "I would like to think that this might be the closing of a chapter, but who knows? Life is unpredictable like that."
PERFECTLY PREPARING FOR MAKING YOUR BIGGEST STEP SO FARHan: "We're looking towards the album now, and we know it needs to be good. Like really good. The best thing that we have ever done, 10/10. I either want to go heavy with it or go poppy with it. There's nothing in-between, but how we feel about it changes daily. We want to be able to make a full piece of art because that's something we have never done before."
Jim: "I used to love picking up a CD and listening to it front to back. That's what we want to bring back, there's something really powerful about it. But at the end of the day, we want to do and make something that is right by us. We want to know that these songs we have written slam and that we love playing them. We need to believe in it and believe in ourselves."
SOLIDIFYING THE DEEP LOVE AND RESPECT IT TAKES TO BE IN A BANDJim: "What Hot Milk means to us is not to falter. Whatever comes up, we will face it. The sheer resilience in the face of anything that stands in front of us, whether production issues or touring schedules."
Han: "You have to keep on going, no matter what. We are the only ones who ensure this keeps going because if we don't do it, nobody else will. You sacrifice an awful lot to be in a band, an everyday life, and you sometimes wonder whether you have fucked up by putting everything you have into it. But you do it for the love of it. You're in the wrong game if you don't love it and don't want it more than anything. This is what we love, and it's what keeps us going."

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Japril spinoff: What Jesse Williams, Sarah Drew have said – Insider
May 2021: Drew said the couple could "change the world of medicine" on a spinoff.
Drew departed "Grey's Anatomy" in 2018, but returned in May 2021 to reprise the role of Dr. April Kepner and help facilitate Williams' exit.
Drew was asked about a potential Japril spinoff at a press conference attended by Insider after her return. She was clear that the premise for a show featuring the pair (who were ex-spouses at that time in the story) working to make medicine equitable for minorities in Boston was just an idea.
But of a show about "racial justice in the medical field," she said, "How cool would that be?"
The "Cruel Summer" star continued: "I just kept thinking like, 'how cool would this couple be?' [Jackson] working from the position of having money and power to be actually able to make that change. And then she's working with folks experiencing homelessness and she's also [trying to make change] in her own way. These two could change the world of medicine, right?"
June 2021: Williams said he and Drew would "kill" a Japril spinoff.
A month after Drew's remarks, Insider's Caralynn Lippo asked Williams about a potential spinoff on a red carpet for the closing night of Tribeca Festival.
The actor said the premise of Jackson and April serving underrepresented communities in Boston "makes total sense."
"It's a really interesting premise. We would kill it," he continued, adding that Drew is "such a tremendous person and actor."
He said he understood where fans who want the spinoff are coming from and that their desire for him to continue the role was "all love."
"I won't say it's not a possibility. I sure as hell won't say that," he added.
December 2021: Williams said Japril fans "earned" and "deserve" a spinoff.
In a conversation with Insider in December 2021 for an article published in March 2022, Williams reflected on the loyalty of Japril fans and their dedication to campaigning for a spinoff on social media.
"If it's a matter of fan love, we would already be in episode eight of it right now," he said.
He added that "if there's such a thing as deserving it, they deserve it and we've earned it and it would be dope."
December 2021: Drew and Williams reflected on what they imagined Japril's life together in Boston would be like.
In the same conversation with Insider in December, Williams and Drew reflected on Jackson and April's potential romantic status in Boston.
"They seem to be so grounded, and calm, and there's nothing really left to fight about," Williams said.
The "Cabin in the Woods" star said that the pair knows they "love each other" and are "going to figure something out."
"I think that they probably moved there with separate apartments and she's always at my place," Williams mused.
"His is way nicer. He just has more money," Drew laughed, to which Williams responded, "Obviously. She's poor."
February 2022: Drew revealed how much she and Williams fought for Japril's future.
In Feburary, Drew provided a statement to Insider explaining that she and Williams fought to change Japril's story in the May 2021 episode where Jackson told April he was moving to Boston.
Drew said that April's life was supposed to be moving in a completely different direction when Jackson knocked on her door in the season 17 episode where she returned.
"The pitch that was given to me was April was super pregnant with Matthew's baby and Matthew wasn't home when Jackson came to the house to pitch April on the idea of going to Boston with him," Drew revealed. "There was a storm outside and Jackson had to deliver April's baby at the house, and through this whole experience, April decided to bring her whole family to Boston with Jackson."
On the episode that actually aired, April was persuaded to move to Boston in part because she was divorcing Mathew (Justin Bruening) a significant story change.
"Jesse and I talked about it and thought it would be more satisfying to the audience if they were left with some hope for Japril reuniting," Drew's statement continued. "Jesse pitched that to the writers and the writers agreed and then the story shifted."
May 2022: Drew reflected on her "tremendous partnership" with Williams.
Drew and Williams returned to "Grey's Anatomy" for the show's 400th episode and season 18 finale, which aired in May.
While talking to People at that time about her return and the potential for a spinoff, Drew said that she and Williams have talked "at length" about the hypothetical show.
"I think it would be a really interesting and fun story to tell," she continued. "Jesse and I obviously love working together, and we have a really tremendous partnership, so I wouldn't discount that as a possibility."
Drew acknowledged that fans are "begging" for the series. But she added: "As of yet, it's only living in the fandom right now."
May 2022: Drew revealed more details about her ideal spinoff.
After the 400th episode of "Grey's Anatomy" aired and confirmed Jackson and April had reunited romantically since their characters left the series, Drew appeared on Tommy DiDario's "Let's Stay Together" Instagram Live show.
"I think that's what's really fun about these two characters... they're both right now kind of really living in their purpose," she said at about the 8:10 mark of the video interview.
"And they're out to change the medical field and to fight for medical justice. We haven't seen that out in the world yet,"Drew added. "So, I think it could lend itself to really interesting, fun stories to tell."
"I want to see that. I want to show that, I want to play those scenes. I think that would be really fun," she said later. "Every time I go on set, I have cast and crew telling me: 'Wouldn't it be so fun to pop our head into Boston and see what's going on over there?'"
In Drew's mind, the Japril spinoff would ideally be about 10 episodes on a streaming platform. The "Cruel Summer" star did note that plans for spinoffs sometimes happen "very fast" and "nobody says anything until everything is decided upon."

May and June 2022: Drew and Williams agreed they want a "darker, grittier, and sexier" spinoff.
Drew also said on DiDario's show in May that she hoped a potential Japril spinoff would be on a streaming platform so that it could be "a little darker, and a little grittier, a little sexier."
Insider told Williams about Drew's chosen adjectives for the hypothetical show and asked him to describe his ideal spinoff while attending the Tony Awards red carpet in June,where Williams was nominated for best performance by a featured actor in a play for his role in the "Take Me Out" revival.
He echoed his costar, saying he'd want a Japril spinoff to be "darker, grittier, and sexier."
June 2022: Drew compared Japril to another iconic TV couple.
While talking to Nerds Of Color in June, Drew shared that since it was revealed Jackson and April were romantic partners once again in the 400th episode, she was now worried about the status of a spinoff.
She said she and Williams hadn't talked to each other about the spinoff in a while, but Drew was concerned because their reunion had happened off-screen already, which might dampen the interest in a spinoff where viewers could watch the characters get back together over time.
But then she said she remembered that stable couples on TV can still be iconic, citing the most beloved couple on NBC's hit "Friday Night Lights," Coach Taylor (Eric Chandler) and Tami Taylor (Connie Britton).
July 2022: Drew brought up revisiting Japril's story.
While promoting her new show "Amber Brown" on "GMA" in July, Drew brought up the possibility of a Japril spinoff or Japril-focused episodes of "Grey's Anatomy."
Asked at the end of the interview about the possibility that she'd return to the show again in the future, she said in part, "I'd love to check in on Jackson and April in Boston, and see what's going on with them." She appeared to be smiling and playing coy.

Introduction
An understanding of basic anatomy is vital for surgery and to focus on the relevant anatomical structures in medical imaging;1,2 however, it also appears to be a challenging subject for medical students.2,3 Human anatomy is a three-dimensional subject that requires a clear understanding of the relationships between structures, usually gained through the study of human cadavers, microscopic samples, and models.3
Due to the outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), physical anatomy education and face-to-face teaching have been adversely affected worldwide.4 The cadaver dissection rate during the pandemic was drastically reduced, likely due to the lockdown policy and fear of COVID-19, which prevented hospitals from accepting body donations.57
In terms of COVID-19 control measures, maintaining physical distance between individuals makes it impossible to conduct teaching activities with a large number of students in a classroom or laboratory. By converting conventional in-person learning strategies into a virtual form, the continuity of learning outcomes is ensured.8
To overcome the interruption in the learning environment caused by the prevailing situation, teaching and learning environments need to adapt to the new normal and technologies. Various e-learning methods using digital technologies are being used in tertiary education.9
However, it is difficult to teach anatomy online through virtual classes and distance learning. Switching to this virtual mode suddenly requires additional work as there is no physical autopsy of the corpse, embryological models, bone samples, microscope slides, or direct interactions with the teacher. Moreover, it has a big impact on students.4,10,11 The aims of this study were to examine students attitudes and perceptions regarding teaching anatomy as part of medical training before and after the lockdown period and the ways of improving the defects detected during this lockdown period.
A cross-sectional study was conducted at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) after approval from the IMSIU IRB committee Approval No. 232020. Between June 2020 and June 2021; 455 first-year and second-year students from the Faculty of Medicine were informed about the purpose of the study and invited to participate. Participants provided written informed consent to participate in the study and 399 student respond to the study.
The study was conducted using two methods:
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, anatomy was taught face-to-face through lectures, laboratory classes, and seminars. The lectures were interactive in nature. The anatomy labs were covered by learning on cadavers, plastinated specimens, and anatomy tables. The histology labs were covered by learning on slides observed under a microscope. Seminars were conducted in the college classroom and they were divided into smaller groups, each group taking a particular objective and presenting a related project to a staff member who assessed the students.
During the spread of COVID-19, the college was constrained to switch its entire teaching guidelines online. Therefore, anatomy learning was secured for online learning. Through a college-sponsored orientation event, staff and students were taught how to register for the Zoom video-conferencing application. The lectures were introduced through live Zoom sessions. Figures from atlas anatomy textbooks and recorded online videos were used to cover the anatomy laboratories. Learning of figures from histology textbooks was used to cover the histology laboratories. Seminars were conducted online.
A structured questionnaire was administered to the students. The survey comprised 15 closed-ended questions based on volunteerism guidelines. Questions employed a 5-point Likert-type scale, with 5=strongly agree, 4= agree, 3= uncertain, 2= disagree, and 1=strongly disagree.
The questionnaire for this study was structured and designed based on the study conducted by Hanafy et al,12 where a pilot study was conducted on 13 students and chronbacks alpha was 0.73.
Depending on the data from the current questionnaire which was administered to students, students were classified into multiple groups; each group consisted of six to eight students, who discussed their opinions and provided suggestions to improve the online teaching process. Their ideas and concepts were coded and categorized and general themes were created.
Six main themes were identified: computer skills and technical Internet infrastructure (improving students technical and computer skills, improving technical Internet infrastructure), improving learning resources (providing students with textbooks, digital resources, and other teaching materials from multimedia and the Internet), staff communication (increasing communication time with staff on a weekly basis and encouraging small groups for discussion of different problems), administrative procedures (assigning administrative persons to communicate with students, help them, and solve any problems they face during the courses), examination (increasing time limit of and immediate feedback after online examinations, separate examination versions for each student to prevent cheating, and development of formative assessments for improving structure recognition), and general (development of blended learning, division of long courses into several parts, and increasing time limit for online lectures and seminars).
Students were then asked to give their opinions about such themes and how much they agreed to improve online learning using a 3-point Likert scale: with 3= agree, 2= neutral, and 1= disagree.
Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 23. A simple frequency distribution was used to express the distribution of different variables, and paired t-tests and Z tests were used for comparison of group means and proportions.
Out of 455 students who were invited to participate in the study, 399 (87.6%) responded. Their ages ranged from 1923 years; most of them were males (76%).
Table 1 indicates that the mean attitude scores for conventional lectures, seminars, and practical sessions were significantly higher than that of online lectures, seminars, and practical sessions, where t= 7.6, P=0.00; t= 5.5, p=0.00; and t= 9.2, p=0.00, respectively.

No significant difference was detected between men and women with regard to the mean attitude scores of the three teaching modules.
The two categories for the three attitude scales (strongly agree and agree) were combined and compared across the three teaching modules for conventional and online teaching. Results are illustrated in Tables 24.

There was a significant discrepancy between conventional and online lectures, seminars, and practical sessions. The students expressed a positive attitude towards the three teaching modules. The highest discrepancy was observed for the statement about the association of teaching materials provided by conventional lectures with learning anatomy and basic science. Two other statements attained a high discrepancy, but to a lesser degree, that is, the effect of conventional lectures on recognition of the structure and construction of a comprehensive picture and integrating medical knowledge, and their attitude towards the correlation between fundamental basic sciences and clinical diseases.
With regard to practical sessions, there were significant differences in students attitudes between the conventional and practical online sessions. It ranged from 32.3% for the efficiency of conventional teaching materials in learning anatomy to 24.1% for the ability of conventional teaching to correlate fundamental basic sciences with clinical diseases (Table 4).
The second part of the study included obtaining students opinions on improving the process of online learning. A total of 362 (79.5%) students completed their responses. Students opinions that attained the highest and lowest agreement are listed in Table 5.

Table 5 describes students opinions towards the six themes, where they agreed that themes related to computer skills and technical Internet infrastructure (71.55%), administrative procedures (61.74%), learning resources (59.6%), and staff communication (59.76%) are essential for improving the online teaching process. The two themes with least agreement for improving the online learning process were the general theme (51.2%) and the one related to examination statements (54.4%).
The results of the current study indicated that the mean attitude scores for conventional lectures, seminars, and practical sessions were significantly higher than those for online lectures, seminars, and practical sessions. These results agree with those of Hanafy et al,12 who found that medical student interest was significantly higher toward conventional than online teaching of anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. These results might be explained by some authors13 who stated that in classroom learning, students gain practical skills, acquire communication skills, and have the opportunity to interact with their teachers.
On the other hand, the results were different from those of Mahdy and Ewaida,14 where veterinary anatomy was taught remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and nearly two-thirds of the students expressed interest in learning anatomy online. Most of the students believed that this type of learning is most effective for both the theoretical and practical parts of the course. Another study15 evaluated the shift from face-to-face education at the University of Malta to remote teaching of human anatomy during the COVID-19 pandemic and found that almost half of the students thought that remote anatomy instruction was equivalent to face-to-face instruction.
The present study found that the highest discrepancy was observed for the statement about the association between teaching materials provided by conventional lectures and learning anatomy and basic science. The results are consistent with those of some studies4,16 that found that the majority of technologically advanced students did not favor learning anatomy exclusively online. An important reason for this is their inability to acquire the three-dimensional orientation of the structures needed to learn anatomy.
The current study observed that the students attitudes toward conventional practical sessions were significantly meaningful compared to the online sessions regarding the conventional teaching materials for anatomy (such as cadavers, plastinated models, anatomy tables, microscopes, and slides). These results agree with that of Khasawneh,17 who assessed medical students feedback regarding online teaching versus face-to-face teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to his study, 79.14% of students found it difficult to understand histology without the benefit of seeing slides under a microscope. In addition, 69.28% of participants reported having difficulty understanding anatomy without viewing models in laboratories.
The second part of the study included students responses regarding the improvement of the online learning process. The students agreed that improvement of the themes related to computer skills and technical Internet infrastructure will improve online learning. These results were in line with those of Nazeefa,18 who discovered major limitations for live Zoom sessions because of varying Internet connectivity strength across the board. According to Yoo et al,6 network interruptions were the most severe restrictions for online learners.
The students agreed that the improvement of themes related to communication would improve online learning. Such communication can be obtained by increasing the scheduled live Zoom sessions with staff and small groups to discuss different problems. According to Totlis et al,19 students prefer traditional classroom lectures to online sessions owing to a lack of interaction between peers and lecturers; as a result, they perceive a decline in the effectiveness of online learning methods.
The students agreed that the improvement of themes related to learning resources would improve online learning. Textbooks and other teaching materials from multimedia and the Internet, digital resources, virtual dissection tables, and Argosy publishers Visible Body are useful tools. This suggestion was supported by one study,20 which stated that the Argosy publishers Visible Body, Elseviers full anatomy, virtual dissection tables, and other web-based 3D virtual resources are available to understand organ architecture and relationships. Zhao et al21 also mentioned that virtual reality-based technology is used to educate anatomy.
The students agreed that the improvement of the themes related to the examination would improve online learning. The suggestions include increasing the time limit and providing immediate feedback after the online examination, creating a separate examination version for each student to prevent cheating, and developing a formative assessment for improving structure recognition. Such suggestions are in line with Snekalatha et al,22 who assessed medical students perceptions of the reliability, usefulness, and practical challenges of online tests. Their results showed that medical students appreciated the usefulness of online formative assessment tests in enhancing learning. Kumar et al23 assessed perceptions of the advantages and disadvantages of electronic assessment among first-year medical students engaged in online learning. Among the advantages, students said that they were being exposed to new ways of learning and obtaining immediate results/feedback.
The students agreed that the development of blended learning in anatomy would improve their learning process. Puljak et al24 also found that 55.7% students preferred hybrid learning. In another national survey of 2721 students in the UK,25 the author recommended a combination of online and face-to-face classes.
This study has some limitations. First, it was a questionnaire-based survey set up on a non-probability voluntary sample and therefore entails typical pitfalls. Second, the participants were recruited from a single academic institution in one country. Our results could differ if the survey was distributed across multiple institutions in different countries. Third, the study depended on students attitudes, which might be influenced by their personal feelings and might affect their responses.
Conventional anatomy teaching is preferred over online teaching. However, improvements in different aspects, such as computer skills, technical Internet infrastructure, learning resources, staff communication, and examinations will aid the learning process and development of blended learning, especially during future challenges.

Is it time to say goodbye to Meredith Grey? Ellen Pompeo has hinted several times that she would be fine with Greys Anatomy coming to an end, but the TV show continues to live on.
The medical drama premiered on ABC in 2005 and Pompeo, has played the titular character, Meredith Grey, since the shows debut and remains on the show alongside her fellow original cast members Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber). In 2022 the series was renewed for a nineteenth season.
I didnt ever think that I would stay on the show this long, the actress said in an interview with Variety in April 2020. It happened, and here I am. Its been this incredible platform for me and allowed me to stay home with my kids so much and not travel and have the circus life of an actor.
In 2018, the medical dramas leading lady spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her battle with the network for more money and contract negotiations with her former costar Patrick Dempsey.
For me, Patrick [Dempsey] leaving the show [in 2015] was a defining moment, deal-wise. They could always use him as leverage against me We dont need you; we have Patrick which they did for years, the actress revealed to THR. At one point, I asked for $5,000 more than him just on principle, because the show is Greys Anatomy and Im Meredith Grey. They wouldnt give it to me. Dempsey ended up exiting the show in April 2015 after portraying Derek McDreamy Shepherd for nearly 11 years.
After years of dedication, Pompeo went after what she wanted and what she deserved a hefty pay increase and producer credits. According to a report from Forbes in 2020, the television star earns $550,000 per episode but also receives about $6 million per year from syndication profits, producing fees and office space on the Disney lot for her Calamity Jane production company.
The mastermind behind the iconic medical show, Shonda Rhimes, said alongside Pompeo on several occasions that the long-running drama will end when the actress decides to walk away. Were getting there. Shonda and I will make that decision together, the Catch Me if You Can actress exclusively told Us Weekly in May 2018.
However, Rhimes took a step back and handed over showrunner responsibilities to executive producer Krista Vernoff when she decided to leave ABC to work for Netflix in 2017. Now, Vernoff has complete control of the series and will ultimately decide when it will be time to end the show.
Ive been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end, Pompeo told Insider during an interview in December 2021. I feel like Im the super naive one who keeps saying, But whats the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?
The Massachusetts native, who has been playing Dr. Meredith Grey on the ABC series for 16 years, noted that no one else seems to be worried about the storylines. Everyones like, Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars, she added.
After the season 19 renewal, she said the creative team was considering how Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital could live on without her. Listen, the show speaks to a lot of people, and the young people love the show, she told Entertainment Tonight in May 2022. Its inspired so many generations of healthcare workers, so, I think for the young people, its a really good piece of content and were going to try to keep it going for the young people, not necessarily with me, but keep it going beyond me.
In August 2022, it was reported that Pompeo would have a reduced role in season 19, appearing in just eight episodes. She will continue to executive produce and narrate each episode.

Harry Shum Jr. Joins Greys Anatomy For Season 19 – Deadline
EXCLUSIVE: Glee alum Harry Shum Jr. rounds out the group of five new resident cast additions for the upcoming 19th season of ABCs venerable medical drama Greys Anatomy. He joins recently cast Adelaide Kane, Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho and Midori Francis. All five will play first-year surgical residents at Grey Sloan, which was ordered to disband and rebuild its teaching program in the Season 18 finale.

Shums Daniel Blue Kwan is sharp-witted, impatient and brilliant. He is generous by nature but competitive to a fault, naturally gifted, and used to winning at everything. A family crisis interfered with his career plans and now hes got a lot to prove.
The character description hints at a backstory that would explain why Daniel is a little older than your typical medical resident.
Known for his roles in Foxs Glee and Freeforms Shadowhunters, Shum alsostarred in, produced and co-choreographed The LXD (Legion of Extraordinary Dancers), a Hulu dance series created by Jon M. Chu who also directed Shum in the hit movie Crazy Rich Asians. Hes next set to reprise his Crazy Rich Asians role of Charlie Wu in the upcoming spinoff movie which centers around Gemma Chans character of Astrid Young Teo and her romance with Charlie.
Shum plays one of the leads in this years breakout indie hit Everything Everywhere All at Once. He also stars in and executive produces technological thriller Broadcast Signal Intrusion, which premiered at SXSW and had a domestic theatrical/VOD release in fall 2021. It is now available on-demand. Last year, Shum starred alongside Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang in Netflixs holiday movie Love Hard.

Greys Anatomys influx of five (count em, five) cast additions for Season 19 are exciting as well as gorgeous, says series vet Caterina Scorsone.
As announced in recent weeks, a quintet of first-year surgical residents are about to roam the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial this fall. You have Adelaide Kane (Reign) as Jules Millin, who was raised by drug addled artist/hippies and somehow emerged as the only real grown-up in the family, plus Harry Shum Jr. (Glee) as Daniel Blue Kwan, a sharp-witted, impatient and brilliant resident who is generous by nature but competitive to a fault.
Also new for Season 19 are Niko Terho who starred opposite Greys Jake Borelli in the 2020 Freeform movie The Thing About Harry as Lucas Adams, who is determined to prove himself as a surgeon (just like many in his family that have come before him), and Midori Francis (Sex Lives of College Girls) as Mika Yasuda, a middle child with eight siblings who is used to being overlooked and underestimated (and uses it to her advantage).
Last but perhaps most curiously, you have Alexis Floyd (Inventing Anna) playing Simone Griffin, a high-achieving and whip-smart young woman who grew up in Seattle but never wanted to work at Grey Sloan because of a painful personal history with the hospital.
Series vet Scorsone, who plays Amelia, tweeted on Saturday night that she had the season premiere script in hand and was memorizing her lines, before adding, The classic cast is ready and revving. The new cast additions are exciting and gorgeous. Inside and out.
