Shes one of two original doctors left at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but could Dr. Miranda Bailey be leaving Greys Anatomy? All the clues are there for Chandra Wilson to scrub out of the ABC medical drama after two decades.

Greys Anatomy sparked speculation that Bailey, who has been played by Wilson since Season 1, was leaving the series in the Season 20 finale, Burn It Down. (Wilson is one of two original cast members still remaining on Greys Anatomy, along with James Pickett Jr., who plays Dr. Richard Webber.) During the episode, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospitals interns Dr. Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd), Dr. Benson Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.), Dr. Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane), and Dr. Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis) threatened to quit the hospital if their fellow intern, Dr. Lucas Adams (Niko Terho), was forced to repeat his intern year. (Dr. Teddy Altman told Lucas in Season 20s penultimate episode, I Carry Your Heart, that the board at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital recommended he repeat his intern year after he operated on a patient without an attending present, which led to the patients death.)

The final scene of the Season 20 finale saw the interns confront Dr. Catherine Fox, the head of the board, and insinuate that they will leave if Adams isnt allowed to stay at Grey Sloan. Just as Catherine is about to seemingly tell the interns that she can easily replace them if they leave, Bailey enters the room and asks, Can you replace me? as the screen fades to black.

So is Dr. Miranda Bailey leaving Greys Anatomy? While ABC nor Wilson have confirmed her exit from the medical drama, the answer seems to be no. Deadline reported after the Greys Anatomy Season 20 and Station 19 series finales that Jason George, who plays Mirandas husband Dr. Ben Warren, is set to return to Greys Anatomy after Station 19s finale. George originally starred on Greys Anatomy as a doctor and main cast member from Seasons 11 to 13 before he moved to Station 19 as a firefighter.

In the Station 19finale, Ben, who injured his arm and could no longer perform his firefighter duties, uses his surgical skills to save a severely burned man by cutting through his burnt skin to allow him to breathe. The episode also saw Ben opened up to Vic Hughes (Barrett Doss) about how was once a great doctor and may no longer be able to be a firefighter due to his injury. The episode also saw Ben triage Theo Ruiz (Carlos Miranda) before accompanying him to Grey Sloan.

Let me guess, youre going back to finish your surgical residency? Andy Herrera asked Ben during the finale. Its that obvious, huh? Its just that between the multiple injuries and constantly being away from Miranda Andy interrupted him, saying, No explanation needed. Its alright, I get it. Look, youre a great firefighter but I know that your love of medicine and helping people knows no bounds. We all have our calling.

A source told Deadline after the Station 19 finale that there were talks for George to return to Greys Anatomy full-time after Station 19s cancellation. Given Ben and Baileys marriage the two married in Season 8 its unlikely that Bailey will leave Greys Anatomy, while Ben returns. However, fans will be seeing less of Bailey and the rest of the main Greys Anatomy cast in Season 21.

Deadline reported in May 2024 that the Greys Anatomy cast will have a reduced amount of episodes for Season 21 as a result of budget cuts amid the series decline in linear ratings, which means that, while there will remain the same amount of episodes for Greys Anatomy Season 21, the whole cast wont be featured in each episode.

As a result of budget cuts, Greys Anatomy will also lose two cast members: Jake Borelli (who plays Dr. Levi Schmitt) and Midori Francis (who plays Dr. Mika Yasuda). News broke of Borellis exit in May 2024, with Deadline reporting that the actor, who joined in Season 14, was let go to save money. Francis, for her part, made the mutual decision to leave Greys Anatomy after she signed with a new talent agency, WME, earlier in 2024. Both Schmitt and Yasuda will be featured at the start of Season 21 to wrap up their storylines.

Greys Anatomy is available to stream on Hulu.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Kim Raver Reflects on Teddy’s ‘Incredible’ Romances With Henry, Owen & More – TV Insider

Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) has had many loves in her life. Over the years, Greys Anatomy has explored the characters past and present partners. While her love story with Owen (Kevin McKidd) has always been a focal point of Teddys journey, fans have never quite forgotten Henry Burton (Scott Foley), whom Teddy married (and later fell in love with) in Season 7 so he could have health insurance.

Its so interesting because I really feel like Teddy and Owen are the life partners, like the one, right? But the relationship with Scott Foleys character, Henry, was just absolutely incredible, Raver told TV Insider as she looked back at Teddys relationships. It was such an interesting moment because it really tells you a lot about Teddy. I mean, that was in a moment of, oh, he doesnt have health insurance. Im going to figure it out and problem solve and and save this guy, right?

Love can blossom in unexpected ways, and thats exactly what happened between Teddy and Henry. While trying to save his life, they found themselves in this incredible romance of falling in love. Unfortunately, it just wasnt meant to be. Henry died during surgery in Season 8. Cristina (Sandra Oh), who looked to Teddy as a mentor, was the one to break the devastating news.

Randy Holmes / ABC / Everett Collection

When you talk about love story for me, like, Teddy and Cristina is the biggest love story and in the most platonic way, Raver noted. The actress felt like Teddy and Cristina were learning from each other as they worked together and praised Oh for her extraordinary performance when Cristina told Teddy that Henry was dead.

Some Greys Anatomy fans might not remember that Teddy and Mark (Eric Dane) had a brief and very casual fling at one point. I totally forgot about it, Raver admitted.

One of Teddys lowest points during her time on Greys Anatomy was her affair with Tom Koracick (Greg Germann). Teddy was pregnant with Owens child and cheated on him with Tom. I think everyone, maybe not to that extent, can understand making bad choices. When you explode your life with a bad choice, then theres consequences, Raver said.

While that period was tough for Teddynever forget Owen discovering the affair via a voice message that Teddy accidentally sentRaver pointed out that it was an amazing growth period for Teddy. Owen forgave Teddy, and they became stronger in spite of it all.

ABC / Anne Marie Fox

I think as humans, I think forgiveness is an extraordinary and difficult but freeing and amazing thing, the 24 alum said. I think that thats why theyre so close now because theyve been through so much together and that they were able to find forgiveness, which makes the relationship even more romantic.

In Season 16, fans learned that Teddy was bisexual. A young Teddy had a relationship with her best friend, Allison (Sherri Saum), while living in New York. Allison died on 9/11 while working in the South Tower, and the last person she tried to call was Teddy. This insight into Teddys past was an illuminating moment for the character.

I love that Teddy is able to feel strong and confident in who she loves and that she has this sort of this incredible history of being able to experience that love and different kinds of love and that theres not a judgment on any part, Raver told TV Insider.

After years of will-they-wont-they and countless obstacles, Teddy and Owens love prevailed. They remain a powerful unit inside and outside the hospital.

I think Teddy and Owen are just really an amazing example of love and then also of doing the work, Raver explained. I think we see in big movies that its just sort of this fall in love and its romantic and its incredible and its this and its that. But then its also this incredible deep friendship of having to navigate through the ups and downs in life and that theyre lucky enough to have partners in one another where they can get through hard times [and] can enjoy the good times.

For Raver, Teddy and Owen were endgame from the start. They really are madly in love, and they really have been from the moment [they met], she said.

Station 19 Finale Sets Up Ben Warren To Return To Grey’s Anatomy, But Will He Really? – CinemaBlend

Spoiler alert! This story contains spoilers for both the Station 19 series finale and the Greys Anatomy Season 20 finale, which both aired May 30 and can be streamed with a Hulu subscription.

The fires that burned around the ABC drama Station 19 were extinguished for good this week, as a killer series finale closed out its seven-season run. Showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige at least had some warning ahead of the series 2024 cancellation, allowing them to use their shortened 10-episode season to send many of their firefighters in new directions. As expected, Ben Warren was one of those, and his story seemed to suggest he might rejoin his wife Miranda Bailey and the rest of the surgeons on Greys Anatomy. But will he? Heres what people are saying.

Station 19s series finale gave a glimpse into the firefighters future, and three months after the wildfire that sparked a deadly fire tornado, Ben (Jason George) informed Capt. Andy Herrera that he wanted to return to Grey Sloan Memorial to finish his surgical residency. As of the episodes May 30 airing, Deadline reports that no deal has yet been reached between Grey's Anatomy and George. However, the sources say the intent is, indeed, to bring him back full time. Zoanne Clack said Station 19 wanted to leave that option open for Greys Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis. Clack told The Wrap:

We wanted to give options. We dont have any kind of crystal ball about whats going to happen, but we dont want to lock in someone that didnt necessarily need to be locked in. We could have killed Ben off in Episode 5 but I think weve set up well that everyone is moving on or moving up, and that seemed to be just the next place to take him. Yeah. Whether or not they take him back is up to Greys.

When it looked like Station 19 might be setting the stage for both Ben Warren and Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato, who also started on Greys Anatomy before moving to the spinoff) to jump back, Meg Marinis played it coy, saying simply that she hadnt seen Station 19s final scripts and didnt know Zoanne Clack and Peter Paiges intentions for Ben and Carina.

Now that the series finale has aired, the showrunning duo said Ben embracing his medical training seemed like the logical next step. Peter Paige said in a Deadline interview:

I dont think anything else wouldve made sense for him. Thats all Im saying.

Zoanne Clack agreed, but acknowledged that wouldnt have been the case before Station 19s cancellation. If a Season 8 would have been in the cards, it sounds like Ben would have remained with his firefighting brethren. Clack said:

For Ben, it felt like a natural progression to what was going to be the end of the series. It wouldnt have happened had we not had to go. But everyone had to move on and do different things. Push forward. And that felt like where he was going to push.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Ben Warren when Greys Anatomy resumes with Season 21 in the fall. The series is already facing budget cuts and losing cast members, and the Season 20 finale saw Bens wife Miranda (Chandra Wilson) threatening to quit alongside her first-year interns. Will she even have a job when we see her again? Only time will tell, and in the meantime, check out our 2024 TV schedule to find a show to fill that Seattle-sized hole in your Thursday evenings.

Anatomy of a fake story: How anti-immigration candidates spread false information to boost their profile – The Irish Times

Just before 8pm on Tuesday of last week, Fergus Power, a local election candidate for South Dublin, posted a shaky 68-second video online showing a group of young schoolchildren walking beside a garda near the Grand Canal.

Garda have to escort Irish schoolchildren past the tent city brought to us courtesy of the criminals in Government Buildings, Power posted on X, formerly Twitter, in reference to the groups of tents set up by asylum seekers along the canal in recent weeks.

Our people are being forced down very dark & sinister road & it will not end well for each & every traitor to our nation, he continued.

The tweet had all the ingredients needed to go viral in the anti-immigrant online ecosystem. There were warnings of an apparent threat to the safety of small children, criticism of Government traitors and dark allusions to potential future violence.

One of the first people to repost it was David Atherton (177,000 followers), a journalist with the European Conservative website. Many others soon followed suit, both in Ireland and abroad. These included right-wing podcaster Mark Attwood (63,000 followers), Carla OConnor, an adult film actor turned anti-immigration activist, and Matt Braynard, a former staffer on Donald Trumps presidential campaign (143,000 followers).

The claim received another significant signal boost when UK far-right activist Tommy Robinson (530,000 followers) repeated it. Clearly they know what these men are like in those tents! he said.

At the same time, the claim spread widely on Facebook, particularly in the many groups set up to oppose asylum seeker accommodation in towns and villages around the country.

After a few days, Powers original post had racked up almost 180,000 views on X alone. The only problem was, it was false. The presence of the Garda with the children had nothing to do with the encampment.

Garda have been escorting large groups of schoolchildren through the city centre long before the arrival of the asylum seekers tents. The purpose was to keep the children together and ensure they do not stray on to the road.

[Immigration is the top issue getting voters attention ahead of elections]

Our Community Policing Unit in Pearse Street regularly engage with local schools and will continue to assist with their activities in this instance, we walked with almost 100 young pupils on a school trip across the city, as there were a lot of major junctions and crossings on the route, a Garda spokesperson said.

Sources in two schools in the city centre confirmed this is a regular occurrence and is not related to asylum seekers.

Its the speed with which this stuff spreads. Thats the real problem, said Supt Liam Geraghty, who heads the Garda Press Office. Garda will often try to correct false information, such as the story about the children on the canal, he added.

But in a few short hours it gets widespread traction, which makes it very difficult to try to counteract or combat. Its very difficult to get a more accurate version of events out there.

We should call what we are seeing what it is. We are witnessing a campaign of far-right terrorism in this State

This is far from the first time that Power has shared false information targeting foreign nationals which has gone viral. Major Incident Celbridge, Power posted in February, before claiming he was hearing reports that a seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three Roma men on the grounds of this hotel and calling for his supporters to gather for a demonstration.

Nothing of the sort was reported, garda said. They were investigating a report that a child had been allegedly physically assaulted by someone known to them. There was no sexual element to the incident, garda said.

Nevertheless, a large group of protesters turned up outside the Celbridge Manor hotel, which was being used to accommodate asylum seekers. Angry demonstrators shouted paedophiles out. Some called for the building to be burned down.

Missiles were also thrown at garda deployed to protect the hotel and its residents.

Last January, Power posted that a foreign national had allegedly been caught with a handgun in Dublin city. In fact, garda had arrested a drunk man with a toy gun.

Power, who did not respond to a request for comment, is one of a number of far-right activists who have become adept at shaping false narratives around asylum seekers and crime so that they quickly go viral. He is regarded as one of the main disseminators of false information around immigration in the country, said a garda responsible for monitoring elements of the far right.

If there is a false claim gaining traction, theres a very good chance he will have been one of the first to share it.

[Snapshot poll decoded: Concerns over housing and immigration crowd out other issues]

Power, who lives in Ballybrack, is running as an independent candidate to represent the Killiney-Shankhill area in upcoming local elections. On candidate documents, he lists his occupation as carer.

He is regarded by garda as one of the key online instigators in the Dublin riots last November. Following the knife attack on several young schoolchildren on Parnell Square earlier that day, he falsely claimed online that one of the victims had allegedly died.

This better get people off their arses & out on the streets, he posted just before 3pm that day.

In February, People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy, while speaking under Dil privilege, said people such as Power are quick to the scene if a property is rumoured to be earmarked as asylum seeker accommodation.

A few days later, it is burned down. We should call what we are seeing what it is. We are witnessing a campaign of far-right terrorism in this State, Murphy said.

Powers activities are not confined to the internet. Last month, he was arrested by garda while holding a sign that said Irish Lives Matter outside a cafe after refusing to vacate the area under public order legislation. In September, he videoed himself with a group of people preparing a mock gallows, with photos of elected representatives attached, which was later used in a protest outside the Dil.

Earlier this month, French officials warned their Irish counterparts that Russian operatives had extended their disinformation network into Ireland, including by exploiting social divisions around contentious issues such as immigration.

However, the vast majority of inaccurate information about immigrants to this country is home-grown and disseminated by Irish people such as Power. Others, such as Derek Blighe and Philip Dwyer, also frequently spread false or misleading information.

Philip Dwyer. Photograph: Collins Dublin

Many of these figures are running in the local or European elections next month, in which they hope to capitalise on growing concerns about levels of immigration.

There are people deliberately sitting there waiting to produce these sources of information to discredit legitimate sources of information

Last June, in a post viewed more than 20,000 times Blighe, claimed it was 100 per cent confirmed that there was an attempted abduction by a foreign man of a young girl in Kenmare, Co Kerry.

In response, the Garda said it had received a report of a suspicious approach to a child but that the report did not conform to the events outlined by Blighe, who is running in the European elections and is currently polling at 4 per cent.

Derek Blighe. Screengrab: From Youtube

Earlier this year, Dwyer, a self-described citizen journalist who is also running in the European elections, was one of the main far-right figures involved in spreading the falsehood that a disused pub in Ringsend, Dublin, was to be used to house asylum seekers.

This was despite the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive (DRHE) confirming the property was being used as emergency accommodation for homeless families. The building was gutted in an arson attack.

There is a general pattern to much of this false information. An anti-immigration account will post about a foreign man harming or threatening an Irish woman or child. The post will often feature terms such as hearing reports of or people are saying, while offering no concrete evidence.

On Telegram, a link to the post will be shared on far-right channels where members are instructed to repost it from their publicly facing profiles.

In many cases, after the post goes viral, it will emerge that the details are grossly exaggerated, distorted or entirely fictional.

This was the case in Finglas last year when anti-immigrant groups claimed a woman had been raped and beaten by two foreign men, leading to angry protests outside Finglas Garda station.

[Taoiseach condemns idiotic attack on Tallaght building earmarked for asylum seekers]

Garda later said they were following a definite line of inquiry in relation to an alleged assault on a woman. The suspect, sources confirmed, was a white Irish man.

There are people deliberately sitting there waiting to produce these sources of information to discredit legitimate sources of information, said Supt Geraghty.

He cites claims following the Dublin riots that the Army was on the streets or claims that the riot police from the PSNI were deployed against anti-immigration protesters in Newtownmountkennedy. This is something that is physically and legally impossible. Yet people see it and believe it.

Just like Irish people, immigrants sometimes commit crimes, including serious crimes. But, according to Supt Geraghty, figures show there is no significant increase in criminal activity or public order issues when a large number of asylum seekers move into an area.

What is increasing, he said, are crimes involving arson attacks on international protection accommodation, assaults on asylum seekers and attacks on elected officials. In some cases its the people who claim there is a big crime increase who are actually causing the crime increase.

The false claims often give a specific location that is then shared into local Facebook or WhatsApp groups as fact, creating a hyperlocal sense of fear and apprehension around something that didnt happen

In some cases, anti-immigration figures will manipulate footage to give a distorted impression. In January, far-right activist Michael OKeeffe posted part of an RT News clip, claiming it shows a foreigner saying the Irish joke too much and that needs to change.

OKeeffe had mischaracterised the womans comments and removed the first few seconds of the clip, which make it clear she is specifically talking about instances where she has been racially abused. His post, which remains online, has been viewed over 1.6 million times.

The first aim is to create fear, anger and disgust, said Mark Malone, research lead at Hope and Courage Collective, an organisation which campaigns against bigotry.

They will post these claims to Twitter for example and ask people to share urgently. The false claims often give a specific location that is then shared into local Facebook or WhatsApp groups as fact, creating a hyperlocal sense of fear and apprehension around something that didnt happen. Invariably, the false claims seek to blame migrants or people seeking asylum.

There is nothing organic about how these posts spread, said Malone. In Telegram groups, the Irish far-right are very open about their desire to keep pushing anti-migrant and white supremacist narratives. False claims and deliberate misinformation is a key means of trying to do that.

After building up peoples rage online, activists seek to create a target group to blame, the next step to asking people out on to the streets in their own town and community, Malone said. We have seen this play out time and time again, usually instigated by a handful of prominent far-right influencers.

In spreading false information, candidates running on an anti-immigration platform are adopting the Trump playbook, which treats the truth as an elastic concept, said Dr Eileen Culloty, a disinformation expert with the Institute for Future Media Democracy and Society at DCU.

Dr Eileen Culloty, DCU school of communications

And, although it is supercharged by social media, spreading rumours... that a foreigner or outsider has attacked someone, especially a child, has a very long history, she said.

Whats more concerning, she said, is were seeing a shift from online extremist rhetoric moving into offline violence, such as arson attacks and attacks on politicians. In that sense, the problem is definitely getting worse.

Grey’s Anatomy: The 10 Worst Character Exits – Den of Geek

8. Heather Brooks

Heather (Tina Majorino) had an unfortunate ending after searching for Richard (James Pickens Jr.), who she does successfully find. The intern gets electrocuted and collapses, bumping her head hard. She doesnt make it due to swelling in her brain. This is entirely Shanes (Gaius Charles) fault as he was the one who was supposed to find Richard, but instead passes the task off to Heather and takes her page from Derek.

After Izzie (Katherine Heigl) gets fired for making a mistake that puts a patients life in danger, she basically runs away, cutting off contact and leaving Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) to pay all of her medical bills. She only comes back when Meredith tells her that Alex is moving on. She wants to get back together but Alex knows he deserves better than how shes treated him. Hes on the other side now and while hes happy shes okay, he wants her to go and not come back. Rather than having these random appearances in season 6 until she leaves, wouldnt it have made more sense for Izzie to have been killed off in the season premiere? At least then her character wouldve been remembered in a good light. However, due to how she treated Alex, any fond memories of the character are left soured.

Lexies death is probably one of the most known and talked about deaths on the show. In the season 8 finale, we lose the character about 15 minutes after a plane crash and it is painful. Mark (Eric Dane), Meredith, and Cristina (Sandra Oh) discover that she is trapped under part of the plane. While Meredith goes to find Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Mark and Cristina try to lift it off of her, but its no use. Due to her injuries, nothing is going to help. Cristina leaves her and Mark alone to say goodbye but Mark is still in denial, insisting shell be fine.

Lexie (Chyler Leigh) tells him that shes dying and eventually, he gets down to the floor and holds her hand, saying that he loves her and has always been in love with her. The more he continues, mentioning how she has to stay alive because theyre going to get married and have two or three kids, the harder it gets to stop crying. Her last words echo his sentiment that they are meant to be. It was impossible to come out of the plane crash with zero casualties but well never be over this loss.

They were definitely meant to be and while we can have some peace knowing that Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie are together, that doesnt make his death in the season 9 premiere any easier. Were now 30 days after the plane crash and he is still unconscious in bed, which means it is time to let go per his directive. Throughout, he is honored with flashbacks highlighting his friendship with Derek, how he took Jackson (Jesse Williams) under his wing, his love for his daughter, and more. The following episode even fills in the gaps and we get a proper goodbye thanks to the surge, referencing Marks final surge of energy before he gets worse. However, that goodbye makes the whole experience even rougher for the fans.

Callie (Sara Ramirez) wants to move to New York with her girlfriend, Penny (Samantha Sloyan), who received a grant, which sounds like a pretty great ending for the character. However, the problem isnt the decision or even the ending itself but what comes with it and how she goes about it. She wants to bring Sofia with her, not considering Arizonas (Jessica Capshaw) feelings on the matter. This leads to a horrible custody battle, which is especially difficult to watch if you loved the previous fan-favorite couple. Arizona wins and being the bigger person, she tells Callie to still go and that theyll figure out a custody schedule that will ensure everyone is happy. The entire storyline paints Callie in a really bad light and the whole thing was handled poorly.
