Dr. Ryan Green, assistant professor of kinesiology and health sciences, demonstrates the use anatomage table. An anatomage table is an advanced virtual 3D dissection table that allows a better view of the human anatomy.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences have made upgrades with a new anatomage table for students to learn more about the human body.

An anatomage table is an advanced 3D virtual dissection table that allows easier access to viewing the anatomy of the human body.

Dr. Ryan Green, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, described the anatomage tables full abilities.

An anatomage table is a virtual dissection table, almost like a big fancy iPad with the ability to look at different areas of the body, said Green. Students will be able to have an in-depth look at different layers and organs almost as if it were in person. There are four different bodies to study, being both male and female genders.

Nursing and health studies students will have the opportunity to learn from real human anatomy.

The body that you see on the anatomage table came from an actual person and real body parts, shared Green. The body was frozen for images that you can see of a subject who had volunteered, all deceased and tweaked so that their faces arent easily recognized.

Green explained where students and faculty members will have access to the table.

The anatomage table will be in the athletic training lab and can be useful for both lectures and lab courses, said Green. I can show pictures, but the real way to learn is to be able to experience it and see what is being demonstrated. The level of understanding will be that much greater.

With a new perspective to learning, Green feels the anatomage table can expand beyond nursing and health studies.

The anatomage table will not only be beneficial to students but to faculty members as well, shared Green. I believe this will be a great experience to be able to collaborate not only within our department, but with others as well, such as engineering.

Green shared how the anatomage table will be beneficial to the university as a whole.

We are very fortunate to have this great tool now, and this can also be seen as a great recruiting tool for the university, mentioned Green.

‘The King of Staten Island’ | Anatomy of a Scene – The New York Times

Hi, Im Judd Apatow. And Im the director and co-writer of The King of Staten Island. This is a scene from early in The King of Staten Island. Thats Maude Apatow, who is playing Petes sister Claire. And in this scene, she is about to leave for college the next day. And shes giving her brother a set of paints to encourage him to pursue his tattooing dream more aggressively. I know youre into art, so I thought you could expand your horizons while Im gone. You got a gift receipt for this? But its also a guilt gift, because shes leaving and on some level, abandoning him. So under the guise of being nice, she is bee-lining for the door. Be nice to mom, O.K.? Dont give her a hard time. She deserves a break. I always give her a break. When am I going to get my break? Like What are you talking about? All anyone ever does is worry about you. In this conversation, Petes character is really on to her. They know each other so well, and he knows this as a guilt gift. He knows shes trying to get away from him. And hes also guilty and insecure that hes made her childhood difficult, because hes taken up so much air in the room from all of his problems. What are you going to do? Are you going to get a job? Or are you going to leave the house? I dont know. Im going to open that tattoo restaurant. No, like, for real. I am being real. Its never been done before. I looked it up. I googled it. Its never been done, not even as a joke. Because no one wants to go to a restaurant and watch people get tattooed while they eat. Its gross. Its the best idea ever. Ruby Tat-Tuesdays, where everyones welcome chicken and tattoos. What I like about this scene is its very real. Its very tense. And yet, both the actor and the actress find a way to be really funny in showing how their relationship melts down. In the scene, they talk about how Scott thinks it was worse for him, because he got to know their dad. And its easier for her, because she was too young to have gotten to know him when he died. Thats something that Pete Davidson talked about that, thats something that he debates with his sister. Who had it worse? And in a way, the scene is almost an apology to his real-life sister for not acknowledging how bad her pain was at times. We shot this scene over an entire day. We had rehearsed it a lot and done a lot of improvisations. One of the reasons why I wanted Maude to do it is shes very alive and very present, and so is Pete. And I knew you would feel it in her eyes every moment that she loves him, but also, shes so guilty about leaving the house.

Water to wine: Anatomy of a biblical miracle at the wedding in Cana – Manchester Ink Link

Miracle of the Wine by Herb Mandel, pen-and-ink with watercolor.

The subject of my drawings varies from day to day depending upon where I am and who I am with. For example, on this particular day I am with myself and my particular interest happens to be a story from the Bible. The story is exciting for me because it involves many people involved in actions and dialogue. The Bible doesnt tell me where this event actually took place (reference John 2:1-12), except, in the town of Cana near Galilee, so I had to decide in my artistic imagination upon a logical arrangement to produce a large assemblage of people. Wine is being served by the wine steward and his helpers, so pictorially I plan to locate this activity in the foreground. The wedding couple and their parents along with important guests are also planned for the foreground and the dozens of other guests will be spread across the background. Jesus will be centered among these guests because he will be performing a miracle.

So this is the scene for the most part, as I saw it inspired by the scripture as it was written. This scene was then sketched in with pencil and then I began adding faces and gestures as they came to me using pen and ink.

As the story continues, Jesus, his mother, and a number of disciples while on the way to Galilee stopped by and were invited to join the wedding festivities. I arranged it so that a great tent was erected over the party area which centered around the young couple and their parents. All the people appear to be happy and gay and enjoying themselves when the wine steward discovered that the wine had been all but used up. He didnt know what to do, but somehow the word was brought to Jesus mother that the wine was almost gone and the steward was at a loss for what to do. Jesus mother spoke quietly to her son and told him the situation and asked him to do something. At first, Jesus was reluctant to interfere but he finally sent word to the wine steward to pour water into the wine kegs. The wine steward then tasted the contents and, behold, it tasted like the best wine they had had all day. This, then, became the first sign of what was yet to come from the young Rabbi.

Once the layout for my drawing was determined, it was subject to modification as I inked it in, to give the people facial and body movement. In this case, I started with the wine steward and his helpers. This was the lifeblood area of the party and perhaps the key to making the picture work. The helpers had to show surprise by the change of water to wine. If you pick out the mama and papa of the newlyweds, they should be showing happiness for what was happening, but all the while the guests were totally unaware of the miracle that had taken place until the wine stewards helpers spread the word that it was Jesus who was responsible for making it all possible.

I finished the drawing in pen and ink but decided it was too colorful an occasion not to introduce color to this picture, so I use watercolor to enhance the otherwise black-and-white composition of the wedding feast. Some months later, I transposed the drawing to a 2 x 4 panel and painted it in oil.

Artist Herb Mandel wrote the above commentary on the biblical story of the wedding at Cana from the book of John in June of 2014. Mandel was an accomplished artist who died in 2016, leaving behind his lifes work, a large collection of paintings, etchings, sculpture and wood carvings, as well as several published books. He was an art educator and beloved father of Inklink publisher Carol Robidoux, who is always looking for ways to promote his art collection. She can be reached at carolrobidoux@manchesterinklink.com. Bong Parts: The Anatomy of your Glass – Wikileaf

Bongs aka bings or bingers have been a staple of the weed community for as long as the weed itself. A bong is a water pipe that helps to cool and diffuse smoke making for a more pleasant and smooth experience.

If you want to learn more about the science behind how bongs work click here.

Bongs come in all shapes, colors, materials, and sizes. The number of modifications and designs that can be incorporated into a bong are endless but the components remain universal. So, lets break down the parts of the bong and what they do.

The bowl is either a metal or glass attachment where weed is inserted and heated. With some bongs the bowl is removable creating its own carb hole.

Once the bowl of weed is heated and cooked it releases smoke through the downstem and into the chamber. The chamber is a long tube containing water at the bottom or base. As smoke enters the chamber it mixes with the smoke. This is where diffusion comes into play.

A carburetor or Carb is an opening used to bring in fresh air to push the smoke out of the chamber. Some bongs with removable bowls use the open downstem as the carb while others will have a hole you seal with your thumb while taking a hit. Removing your thumb lets the fresh air in to help you clear the smoke from the chamber.

At the bottom of the chamber is the base. Its where a bong holds its water. These chambers can either be the same shape as the tube or a bulbous, beaker base.

These are the basic components of a bong. But outside of these a bong can look like anything or have as many tubes and chambers as your mind can imagine.

Study demonstrates feasibility of hologram technology in liver tumor ablation – Science Codex

FAIRFAX, Va. (June 15, 2020) -- Data from one of the first clinical uses of augmented reality guidance with electromagnetically tracked tools shows that the technology may help doctors quickly, safely, and accurately deliver targeted liver cancer treatments, according to a research abstract presented during a virtual session of the Society of Interventional Radiology's 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting on June 14. The technology provides a three-dimensional holographic view inside a patient's body, allowing interventional radiologists to accurately burn away tumors while navigating to avoid organs and other critical structures.

"Converting traditional two-dimensional imaging into three-dimensional holograms which we can then utilize for guidance using augmented reality helps us to better view a patient's internal structures as we navigate our way to the point of treatment," said Gaurav Gadodia, MD, lead author of the study and radiology resident at Cleveland Clinic. "While conventional imaging like ultrasound and CT is safe, effective, and remains the gold-standard of care, augmented reality potentially improves the visualization of the tumor and surrounding structures, increasing the speed of localization and improving the treating-physician's confidence."

In this initial in-human pilot study, the technology was used to deliver a treatment known as percutaneous thermal ablation of solid liver tumors. To apply this technology, the physicians use multi-phase CT to record coordinate markers placed on a patient's body. This imaging data is added to a software application that allows for segmentation of the tumor and nearby structures within the marked coordinate space. This information is fed into a proprietary augmented reality application, which utilizes Microsoft's HoloLens technology, a virtual reality headset with transparent lenses, to project a segmented hologram of the patient's imaged anatomy directly onto the patient. The hologram is registered to the coordinate markers to ensure accurate location of the relevant anatomy.

Utilizing electromagnetic tracking, instruments including the ablation probe can also be visualized in the augmented reality space during the procedure, thus allowing for true holographic intraprocedural guidance. Interventional radiologists can then use the combination of the holographic images of the patient's anatomy and tracked tools to find the tumor in the patient's liver quickly, check for optimal targeting of the tumor by the ablation probe, and avoid key structures.

The study included five patients who were selected for microwave ablation of their liver tumors. For safety during this IRB-approved study, the gold standard of ultrasound was used for primary clinical decision making and probe guidance, with direct comparison to holographic guidance. Following ablation, images and video from post-procedural sonography, cone beam and multi-detector row CT, and HoloLens recordings were evaluated. In all five cases, intra-procedural holographic guidance was in agreement with the standard ultrasound-based guidance. Post-procedural imaging showed adequate tumor ablation, and no patients experienced tumor recurrence at the three-month follow-up. In this early phase pilot study, the authors anecdotally observed that the speed of tumor localization was faster with holographic guidance, and that their confidence in optimal ablation and critical structure avoidance was improved over standard imaging guidance. They are further attempting to quantify these findings as they continue to enroll patients in the study.

Beyond its use during treatments, interventional radiologists also see value in using this tool for clinicians' planning purposes and for improving patient engagement and understanding of the condition and treatment.

"This technique can be used intra-procedurally to check the accuracy and quality of the treatment, as well as pre-procedurally to engage with the patient in their own care," said Charles Martin, III, MD, FSIR, an interventional radiologist at Cleveland Clinic who is the principal investigator of the IRB and the senior author of the study. "We can change 2D images into holograms of a patient's distinct anatomy so that both the physician and the patient get a better understanding of the tumor and treatment."

Researchers continue to test this technology for ablations in the abdominal area with plans to expand to other types of procedures and in other areas of the body. The technology has only been tested for feasibility and therefore cannot yet be used as a standalone method for delivering a treatment.

Additional information about the clinical trial is available at ClinicalTrials.gov, using the identifier NCT03500757. This work was funded through internal enterprise grants from Cleveland Clinic, as well as the Ohio-based biotechnology startup, MediView.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Will Katherine Heigl Ever Return as Izzie Stevens? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy Season 16 saw the return of Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) in the most unconventional way. The character rekindled her flame with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). But it was done entirely without the original actors.

Nevertheless, with Izzie now fresh in everyones mind, many viewers are wondering whether Heigl would ever come back to reprise her breakout role on Greys Anatomy. Heres what the actor and showrunner Krista Vernoff have said.

RELATED: 5 Greys Anatomy Episodes That Changed the Shondaland Series Forever

Heigl last appeared as Izzie in Greys Anatomy Season 6. The surgeon made a mistake while Seattle Grace Hospital was making budget cuts. So she was fired. Izzie also blamed Alex at the time and ghosted him.

Later, Izzie returned and wanted to get back together with Alex. However, he knew he deserved better and turned her down. Izzie left Seattle to start a new life and did not return.

Then in Greys Anatomy Season 16, Alex contacted Izzie when reaching out for Meredith Greys (Ellen Pompeo) medical license hearing. He found out Izzie was living on a farm in Kansas and she became a surgical oncologist. She also used the embryos they made when she had cancer and gave birth to twins.

Then in a turn of events, Alex realized he was still in love with his ex. So he left his wife, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), to raise his family with Izzie.

When speaking with Entertainment Tonight in July 2019, Heigl answered whether or not she would return to Greys Anatomy in the future. However, the actor acknowledged it would be a tough decision to come back.

I havent [thought about Izzie] in years, Heigl said at the time. I dont know if I would or if I wouldnt.

She continued, I almost feel like that would almost be distracting again to, sort of, what theyve done with that show in the seven years since I left and what thats become and what it is to the fans now. It must feel like it would just be kind of like, Yeah, we already let that go why are you here?

RELATED: Greys Anatomy: Krista Vernoff Reveals Why Alex Karev Didnt Die in Season 16

Now, Heigls remarks may not come as much of a surprise. Before the actor left Greys Anatomy in 2010, she spoke out against her Emmy nomination in 2008.

I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination, Heigl said, per The New York Times. And in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention.

Then two years after Heigl left the ABC medical drama, she told E! News she asked to return. Heigl also wanted to figure out what happened to Izzie. But creator Shonda Rhimes noted Heigls return wasnt in the cards.

It was really nice to hear her appreciating the show, Rhimes told TV Guide in 2012. We are on a track we have been planning, and the idea of changing that track is not something we are interested in right now.

Of course, its been a few years since Heigl left Greys Anatomy. So have things changed? The 16th season recently closed the chapter on Izzie and Alexs storyline. However, we now have confirmation both characters are very much alive. Therefore, they could potentially return before the series end.

Then when speaking with Deadline after the Greys Anatomy Season 16 finale, Vernoff answered whether Heigl and Chambers could return as Izzie and Alex in the future. And the current showrunner didnt exactly say no.

When I left the show in Season 7, people asked me if there was any chance of me ever coming back, Vernoff said in April 2020. I was smart enough to say, Never say never. Here I am, so who knows?

Grey’s Anatomy, Hamilton and Netflix stars criticise US theatre over treatment of diverse actors and crew – digitalspy.com

A huge number of stars from Grey's Anatomy, the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, Hamilton, Orange is the New Black, Pose and more have come together as a group called 'The Ground We Stand On' to call out the theatre industry for racial inequality.

Sandra Oh, Sterling K Brown, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Issa Rae, Uzo Aduba, Viola Davis, Billy Porter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Danielle Brooks, among dozens upon dozens of others, have listed the ways in which people of colour have been affected by white privilege in the theatre, and demanded that changes be made.

The letter, titled 'We See You, White American Theatre', reads: "We have watched you un-challenge your white privilege, inviting us to traffic in the very racism and patriarchy that festers in our bodies, while we protest against it on your stages. We see you.

A Mysterious Bone Discovered in The Hearts of Some Chimpanzees Raises Big Questions – ScienceAlert

Some chimpanzees might be growing hard-hearted with age. A curious little bone has been found forming in the heart tissue of several chimpanzees, according to a newly published study.

The size of this mineralised tissue, measuring no more than a few millimetres, appears to vary among individuals; but on the whole, researchers say it appears to be an os cordis - a type of heart bone usually found in large ruminants, such as cattle and buffalo, but also present in camels and even otters.

No such thing has ever been identified in chimps before, or any other great ape for that matter, leading the research team to speculate about human anatomy, too.

"The discovery of a new bone in a new species is a rare event, especially in chimps which have such similar anatomy to people. It raises the question as to whether some people could have an os cordis too,"says anatomist Catrin Rutland from the University of Nottingham.

Using high-resolution scans to analyse the cardiac skeleton structure (dense connective tissue supporting the heart) of great apes for the first time, researchers noticed calcifications growing in the hearts of some chimpanzees.

Closely tied to age, the eldest female among the group, coming in at 59 years old, was found with several sites of hardening within the great vessels of her heart.

Further analysis of the tissue at microscopic levels revealed these structures were sometimes made entirely of bone, sometimes of cartilage, and other times were somewhere in between the two tissue types.

Given the relatively small scope of such a study, it's possible this is merely an anatomical peculiarity among some chimps, but the researchers have reason to suspect otherwise.

In humans, mineralisation of the cardiac skeleton is usually due to age, and is associated with cardiovascular disease. While chimps may not be as prone to coronary artery issues as our own species, heart disease still affects nearly 70 percent of captive adult chimps.

The most common type of heart disease in chimps is idiopathic myocardial fibrosis (IMF), which is marked by an accumulation of fibrous connective tissue associated with arrhythmia - atypical heart rhythms - and sudden cardiac arrest.

Out of all 16 hearts the team assessed in this study, only 3 chimps showed no evidence of IMF in their hearts, and didn't have any hyperdense areas, either. On the other hand, all chimp hearts affected by IMF showed bone or cartilage formation, and increased connective tissue nearby.

"In the remaining seven hearts, hyperdense areas were detected and were compatible with areas of mineralisation or bone formation (shown as very bright regions in the images)," the authors write.

In four of these cases, the location and size of this structure fell in just the same spot as an os cordis.

"The significant association between the presence of an os cordis and high levels of IMF suggests that the presence of an os cordis in this species may be a pathological finding or marker rather than an anatomical feature," the paper concludes.

The pathology of IMF in great apes is poorly understood, but if the authors are right and this bone is somehow involved, it's crucial we find out more.Chimpanzees are an endangered species and cardiovascular disease is one of the biggest threats to their lives in captivity - and possibly also in the wild.

While comparing the scans, researchers found one heart that contained a so-called cartilage cordis, which looked like it might have been a precursor to further bone formation.

Whether or not this is a bad thing for the animals remains unclear. The exact function of os cordis hasn't been figured out yet in other species, and even in cases where it develops with age - as it does in otters - it's not always harmful, and could actually protect the heart valves.

"The clinical and functional implications of the presence of cartilage and bone tissue in the chimpanzee cardiac skeleton remain to be elucidated," the authors of this new research write.

"[W]hether the presence of cartilage formation or ossification [bone growth] within the cardiac skeleton of chimpanzees further increases the chances of arrhythmic events is, as yet, unknown."

The study was published in Scientific Reports.

Greys Anatomy, The Flash, House of Cards these series that have turned a actor after a controversy

So that old messages are racist and sexist Hartley Sawyer have surfaced on Twitter, the production of the Flash decided to turn the interpreter of Ralph Dibny in the series. But this is not the only series to have had to dismiss a player in the midst of controversy. House of Cards, Scandal, Greys Anatomy, Criminal Minds the list is long.

As the movements in the Balance your pork or #MeToo had raised a wave of protests and denunciations, the movement Black Lives Matter initiated by the death of George Floyd unties him also languages. He has been seen with many of the charges against Lea Michele by several co-stars of Glee , or against Hartley Sawyer, the interpreter of Ralph Dibny in The Flash. So that old messages are racist and sexist have surfaced on Twitter, the CW, Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. TV and executive producer Eric Wallace decided to kick him out of the series. It is not the only one to have suffered this kind of consequences. Here are other actors and actresses to have been rejected(e) a shooting following a controversy.

Greys Anatomy : Isaiah Washington (Preston Burke) scales on its reference

Isaiah Washington, who interpreted the Dr. Preston Burke in Greys Anatomy has been fired from the series medical. It would, in October 2006, uttered on the set of the homophobic insults towards his playing partner T. R. Knight aka George Omalley. The production then decided not to renew his contract at the end of season 3. The accusations, which he denies, accusing Howard Davine, Vice President of ABC to have had a behavior racist and biased towards him. It was then returned in the series the time of an episode during season 10.

These actors fired from their series as a result of a controversy

The dismissal of Hartley Sawyer is reminiscent of that of Roseanne Barr. On may 29, 2018, ABC announced the abrupt ending of the series Roseanne, a year after its grand return to television, after a racist tweet from the star of the program. The actress, 65, known for his support of Donald Trump, was taken to the former advisor to Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, on Twitter : The muslim brotherhood and the Planet of the apes had a baby: vj. Despite the deletion of his tweet and his apology to the public, the decision of the ABC was irrevocable. A few weeks later, the american chain announced that Roseanne was going to have a sequel in the form of a spin-off, without Roseanne Barr. A way of not punishing the other players

Kevin Spacey : prosecutions for sexual assaults, abandoned

If there is a reference that has made a lot of noise, it is that of Kevin Spacey, the interpreter of Frank Underwood in House of Cards. In response to accusations of harassment and sexual assault made against him by several young men (including actor Anthony Rapp), the production had no other choice than to kick him between seasons 5 and 6 and kill his character. This is Robin Wright, his wife on the screen, which has taken the lead in the series for the last eight episodes.

Criminal minds season 15 : Thomas Gibson (Hotch) to return to the end of the series ?

In August 2016, ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios announced the dismissal of Thomas Gibson, the interpreter of the Agent Aaron Hotchner in Criminal Minds for 12 years. In cause : the violent behavior that he would have had on the shelf, since he would be beaten with a member of the team in behind-the-scenes. Especially as this would not be the only time where it would have been violent. In the series, the supervisor of the BAU was replaced by Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) in episode 3 of season 12.

Clayne Crawford : what becomes of the actor who played Martin Riggs in the series, the lethal weapon ?

Clayne Crawford, the executor of Riggs in lethal Weapon, was sacked at the end of season 2 as a result of the behaviors deemed to be non-professionals on the set and, despite his apologies. He has been sanctioned several times in response to complaints of harassment or for providing a hostile environment on the shooting, wrote the site Deadline. However, some target the poor agreement between Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans (Murtagh) on the shooting. It was then replaced by Seann William Scott (who embodies Wesley Cole).

Scandal season 4 : Columbus Short is leaving the series

The series Scandal has apparently not had enough of scandals, it was necessary that a player adds one. Columbus Short, the interpreter of Harrison Wright, has been fired after the 3rd season due to a scandal regarding his private life. It would have been dismissed after his ex-wife has accused him of domestic violence and death threats. It has obtained an injunction remoteness of the home.

Empire season 6 : Jussie Smollett return for the end ? The creator responds

In January 2019, Jussie Smollett songwriter Jamal Lyon in Empire claims to have been a victim of aggression, homophobic and racist in Chicago. A few weeks later, when he is suspected of having organized the assault, racist and homophobic which it has been a victim, the one who never ceases to proclaim his innocence is transferred to the series Empire, set during season 5. We also know the effects that this can have on the cast and team members of the series and, to avoid any problem, we have decided to remove the character from Jamal of the last two episodes of the season, had said in a press release from the producers of the series including Lee Daniels, the creator of the show, and Danny Strong.

Shannen Doherty : the witch of Charmed proving to have a breast cancer

Shannen Doherty has managed a double feat : to be fired two times, two different series ! First of Beverly Hills, where she performed Brenda Walsh, at the end of season 4 in 1994, and then Charmed, where she played the role of Prue Halliwell in the past 3 seasons. In question each time : his behaviour is unmanageable on the shelf According to rumors, she would have even quarreled with her co-star Alyssa Milano.

Nicollette Sheridan during the great depression ?

The series Desperate Housewives will have not escaped the whims of its stars. After having been fired from the series by its creator, Marc Cherry. Nicollette Sheridan has filed a complaint for violence, discrimination and harassment, asking for the modest sum of $ 20 million. She lost the trial because of the lack of evidence and the support provided by the other stars of the series and the producer.

The Guardians of the galaxy : James Gunn to return ? The cast sign a petition to support it and Disney would have called back.

The actors are not the only ones to suffer the consequences of their actions : James Gunn, the director of the franchise, The Guardians of the Galaxy, has also been fired by Disney, even though he had just concluded the writing of the third film. The cause : of old tweets dating from 2008 to 2011, in which he joked about topics like rape or pedophilia, But following the mobilisation of stakeholders and a petition, it has been re-hired by Disney a few months later to write the continuation of the franchise.
