Before they achieved critical fame on Grey's Anatomy, these actors starred in several feature movies and hit films.

Today, Greys Anatomyhas one of the longest-running tv shows of all time. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the medical dramafocuses on its characters and the personal drama that they bring to each episode. There is also plenty of laughs, drama, intriguing storylines, and cleverly crafted dialogue that fans have thoroughly enjoyed too.

As far as the cast goes, the show also boasts of one of the largest assemblies of on television. With over 200 main characters, it's not surprising if some of its cast look quite familiar. In some cases, these cast members have also appeared in some hit movies, including:

Before she ever landed the titular role on Greys Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo worked on a number of feature films early on in her career. Among them was this 2002 drama that also stars Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

In the movie, Pompeo and Gyllenhaal cross paths as Gyllenhaal mourns the death of his fianc. While recalling Pompeos audition for the movie, Gyllenhaal told the Los Angeles Times, And she blew the audition out of the water. Interestingly, the two also had a brief encounter shortly before they learned that they would be working on this movie together.

This 2002 movie is considered one of the best cat and mouse films today. Catch Me If You Can boasts of a cast that includes Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, Martin Sheen, and Christopher Walken. The movie also stars Pompeo. However,it's sort of one of those blink-and-you-miss-it appearances.

The actress appears briefly in a scene as a flight attendant, a role that Spielberg had offered to her. While speaking with Los Angeles Times, Pompeo recalled, And I graciously accepted. And screamed all the way home.

In this 2002 romantic comedy, Reese Witherspoon plays a New York City socialite who needs to return to Alabama to get a divorce from her estranged husband. In the movie, Patrick Dempsey plays Witherspoons ideal fianc while Josh Lucas plays the man she cant wait to divorce. In 2019, there was talk of a possible sequel.

While on Good Morning America, Lucas said theres a proposed storyline where Dempseys character is still in the picture. According to USA Today, Witherspoon has said she would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2.

In this 2007 comedy, Greys Dempsey plays a single father who meets a woman from a fairy tale world. Of his role, the actor admits that he found it to be both fun and challenging. Dempsey even told Cinema.com, There were times when I wanted to put the scrubs back on and go back to Greys Anatomy because I kept worrying that I was too serious or not funny enough.

Interestingly, Dempseys leading lady was also supposed to be Witherspoon. The role eventually went to Amy Adams.

Sideways is a critically acclaimed film about two men who decide to make a trip to Californias wine country just before one of them gets married. In the movie, Greys Sandra Oh plays a single mom. While discussing the film, Oh told Entertainment Weekly, In Sideways, I have maybe 15, 20 lines. But because of the way the film is written, you never see anyone as a sidekick or a girlfriend.

Sideways went on to score several Oscar nods and an Oscar win for best-adapted screenplay. It is also known as one of Alexander Paynes best movies.

This 2010 movie centers on a dancer who is dealing with a multiple personality disorder. Frankie & Alice stars Halle Berry, Stellan Skarsgrd, Phylicia Rashad, and Greys Chandra Wilson. While discussing the movie withShock Ya!, Wilson revealed that she wanted to do the film because of the cast.

The actress even jokingly remarked, So in a way, it didnt matter what the project was going to be. Meanwhile, Wilson also revealed that she only had a few days to shoot her scenes for the movie because of her Greys schedule.

In a similar structure to Love Actually,Valentine's Dayfollowed the lives of several characters. One of the stories sees Sean (Eric Dane), who is a closeted gay football star attempt to save his relationship with his boyfriend (Bradley Cooper) after tensions between them become too much.

Dane wasn't the onlyGrey'sstar to feature in the movie either.Patrick Dempsey also appears, playing a cardiothoracic surgeon, who is also the boyfriend of Jennifer Garner's character. In an ironic twist, he is also revealed to be married.

The 2009 sequel stars Chris Carmack as a man who uses his power to time travel and solve the mystery surrounding the death of his girlfriend.

RELATED:10 Things That Make No Sense About The Butterfly Effect

Aside from playing the lead role in the movie, Carmack also contributed behind the scenes, specifically when it came to some of the background music. I was working with director Seth Grossman and he had mentioned he wanted to put some bluesy type tunes in the background of some of the bar scenes, Carmack told Media Mikes. He asked if I had any music he could use and I told him I did

The November Man stars Pierce Brosnan as a former CIA agent, who takes on a personal mission and finds himself going up against a former pupil. The movie also stars Greys Anatomys Caterina Scorsone as Celia, who plays a CIA official.

The November Man came out around the time that Scorsones stint in the Greys spinoff, Private Practice, had ended. As interesting as the premise of the movie may seem, The November Man received lackluster reviews from critics. There is consensus that the movie just utilizes a lot of spy action-thriller clichs.

In this comedy, Ben Stiller plays a security guard who works at a museum where figures come alive at night. The movie also stars Kim Raver as Stillers ex-wife. Around the time that Raver was working on the movie, she was yet to join the cast of Greys. That said, she was starring in the series 24.

Night at the Museum may be seen as a great family movie, but many say that it also features one of the worst graphics, especially when it comes to the mummies. However, as long as kids are watching, many fans dont mind that Rami Malek is playing a not-so-scary mummy.

Grey’s Anatomy: Who Meredith Should Meet Next On The Beach – CinemaBlend

Spoilers for the most recent episode of Grey's Anatomy.

There are long-running TV shows, and then there's Grey's Anatomy. ABC's medical drama is currently in the midst of its whopping 17th season in the air, and it's already been a doozy. The current season is largely focused on the pandemic's affect on Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey has been battling the virus. A few beloved past characters have visited Meredith in her beach hallucinations, and I know who should appear next: Chyler Leigh's Lexie Grey.

What If Grey’s Anatomy Was Made In The UK? (Recasting The Characters) – Screen Rant

From Meredith to McDreamy, who would play the main characters of grey's Anatomy if it was made in the UK? Here are the top contenders.

Though British TV likes its fiction outings to be pithy and really values early exits, it could take some notes from American shows like Greys Anatomy or The Big Bang Theory which not only have had historic runs but have also generated quite a lot of cash for its makers. British television has had its share of medical shows, but what if Greys Anatomy was ever remade for the English audiences?

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Saddest Things About Derek

Wholl play Meredith? Someone from Game of Thrones or someone from the powerful female-led roster of The Crown? Also, whod play McDreamy and McSteamy? Heres re-casting the characters for the long-running medical drama, if it was remade in the UK.

Casting Meredith for the shows British remake could be tricky because her character is so intricate and complex, but The Crown star Claire Foy really should be the go-to British actor to be cast in the main lead.

By now Foy has garnered a reputation for making each role her own, especially the characters that have room for adaptability. In The Crown, for instance, she never gets carried away by what the popular opinion about Queen Elizabeth II is and devises her own techniques of emoting. In Greys AnatomyMeredith needs to be played by an actor who wont be too affected by what has already been done on American TV.

Fans and critics would probably unanimously vote in the favor of casting Idris Elba in the role of McDreamy, but its not all about his looks. Elba excels in drama-led roles and he would be able to channel the dilemmas that are part of Derek Shepherds character.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Main Characters' Biggest Flaws & Best Redeeming Qualities

Its also important to note that Dereks arc gets quite poignant and complex as the show progressed but it never gets tired or overwrought, so the British remake of the show would essentially need someone who has prior experience with carrying dramatic outings on their own shoulders.

Cristina Yang is one of the most interesting characters American television has ever witnessed; Sandra Ohs dazzling performance as Cristina was the reason why the role became so much more than just a best friend/ sidekick.

Owing to her popularity, the writers of the show had to slot in almost equal screen time for both the heroines on the show. And I May Destroy You star Michaela Cole is the obvious choice for playing Cristina in the British version of the show. Theres a lot of texture, angst, and volatility in the role and Coel is no stranger to playing gritty, realistic, and earthy protagonists who can hold their own in spite of not being the primary lead.

It could be hard scoring the Get Out star to sign up for a TV show -- no matter how promising -- but hed be the perfect pick to play the fan-favorite character, Jackson Avery. Jackson is primarily a great friend and ally, especially to Meredith, and they both bond over having to deal with the legacy of their parents.

But theres also a pleasant breeziness about him that makes Avery so charming and socially adaptable; if Kaluuya took up the role, fans could get a glimpse of a somewhat grittier version of the character, perhaps more drama-led.

Addisons character was one of the most well-written roles in the entire show; in fact, her character was designed to subvert the trope of the toxic ex so she was never upheld as a nemesis to Meredith. This is not to say that Addison had no flaws or personal hang-ups but the role was quite nuanced.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 5 Characters To Invite Over For The Holidays (& 5 Who Would Be Terrible Guests)

Gemma Arterton would be an ideal pick to play the role of Dereks ex-wife Addison who still has feelings for her estranged husband. Arterton has proved her mettle with restrained dramatic performances and after her indie successes, would probably be up for a mainstream project.

Its pretty obvious that if George O Malleys character was written for British audiences it would be a comically driven one; the British George would perhaps be hilarious to be with and somewhat sarcastic and socially awkward. And no one plays this blend better than IT Crowd star Richard Ayoade.

The actor is known for his biting wit and comedy performances in fiction shows and panel outings and is also the director of the beloved coming-of-age film Submarine. Lets just hope the British George wont be killed off this heartlessly this time around.

The British McSteamy could really be the next big heartthrob and Homeland star Damian Lewis should probably get the role, considering hes already equipped to deal with the wide fan base. Interestingly, if a character like Mark Sloane is written for British audiences, it would probably feature some muted dark shades or an element of mystery to it.

RELATED:Choose Me, Love Me: 10 Awesome Gifts For Grey's Anatomy Superfans

Lewis usually only opts for roles that are ethically ambiguous or curious and he definitely matches up to Erik Danes looks, so its win-win.

The Penny Dreadful star has a fantastic range and has explored almost every other genre from horror to sci-fi to comedy. Andrew DeLucas role has a lot of room for adding interesting textures; his struggle with mental health is already realistic and sharply portrayed.

DeLucas role isnt exactly like Dereks character, especially pertaining to their relationship with Meredith since Andrew has quite a few personal hang-ups that he is coping with simultaneously and it would be interesting to observe how Latif plays each aspect of this character.

The actor found a lot of acclaim for her role as Mustapha Mond in Hulus Brave New World and her stint in Criminal: UK was also superbly captivating.

Sosanya can really command a lot of attention on and off-screen and as interesting as Miranda Baileys role is in Greys Anatomy, British fans would probably want to see more edge to the character since shes a woman with quite a lot of influence and has often been the ethical yardstick for her colleagues.

The actor stunned audiences with his portrayal of Prince Phillip in season 4 of The Crown; though fans had presumed he had been cast to unlock some grey shades in the role, his portrayal was surprisingly compassionate, grounded, and even engaging.

Menzies usually excels in negative characters, or in morally dubious roles. Itd be interesting to see how he would play the role of Alex because Alex was introduced to be somewhat of a foil to Meredith and was the sore thumb, although not a villain in any sense. He evolves into someone really earthy and interesting who fans could relate to, and post The Crown, Menzies chances for the role look really good!

Grey’s Anatomy boss discusses whether season 17 will get less heavy – Digital Spy

Grey's Anatomy spoilers follow.

Grey's Anatomy boss Krista Vernoff has admitted that there are "some pretty intense episodes coming up" in season 17, despite the show having already put its viewers through the emotional wringer recently.

Then again, who would expect anything less from the medical drama that's known for its tear-jerker moments?

As the current instalment continues to air in the US, the showrunner opened up about what's in store for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and the like. Most notably, she touched on whether the characters and subsequently, those watching at home will get any relief after seeing the former battle COVID-19 and the latter tragically lose her mother, among other big twists and turns.

"These were very heavy episodes and we have some pretty intense episodes coming up at the beginning of the year as well," she told Deadline. "We started our season in April of 2020, and we're being as honest and as authentic and as deep and as true with that as we can.

"What that means is we have to find our hope and our joy and our silver linings and our humor and our sexy and our romantic inside the parameters that 2020 offered us."

But that's not to say that Vernoff sees the outing's more harrowing storylines as devoid of light.

In fact, she went on to say that she's felt "hopeful" every day of 2020 that things are going to improve across the US and the world, and she's always tried to imbue each episode with that feeling and a sense of much-needed realism, too.

"I'm hopeful for a vaccine. I'm hopeful that people will start to take the pandemic seriously. I'm hopeful that theyll start to wear masks," she explained.

"I'm hopeful that we can depoliticize this thing and all just take care of ourselves and each other and our healthcare workers.

"One of the ways that Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 are helping with that is by living inside of the pandemic rather than jumping to an idealized post-pandemic world. So, I have a different twist on hope this year."

Grey's Anatomy season 17 airs on ABC in the US. It airs on Sky Witness in the UK with selected episodes also available on NOW TV.

Greys Anatomy: Why The Show Should End (& 5 Why Fans Want It To Keep Going) – Screen Rant

Grey's Anatomy is one of the longest lasting shows in television. Why should it end now, and why do it's fans want the show keep going?

Grey's Anatomy has been on the air for 17 seasons, and some say it is time to call it quits. Ellen Pompeo has even hinted that this might be the final season of the show and the direction it's taking doesn't instill confidence that they have more seasons planned for the future. Some fans are relieved that it will finally be over, while others wish that they would keep the magic alive.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Things About Meredith That Make No Sense

There are reasons why it could go either way, especially when analyzing the direction of the show in recent years. No decision has been made as of yet, but here's to hoping that Grey's Anatomy never ends despite some of the telling signs!

It has become painfully obvious that they are starting to run out of ideas for the show, especially as some recurring themes keep popping up throughout the series.

Fans are just waiting for them to kill off the next character in the series and find out which relationship is going to end in heartbreak. Many want the show to continue, but with this repetition some find themselves refusing to watch anymore as they grow bored of the monotony.

Meredith has a lot ahead of her, and although she has won a Harper Avery Award, she has the potential to win a Catherine Fox award next.

Her mind is full of great ideas and advice that leavesfans wanting to explore the possibilities and watch as she continues to grow. Ellen Pompeo might have had enough, but Meredith Grey sure hasn't as her efforts to make advancements have seemed to stall.

The focus has begun to shift from medicine to more political ventures. Fans watched Meredith Grey pick up trash for a while in an emotional twist after she committed insurance fraud when they could have focused on other medical advancements.

Yes, it is important for a show as big as this to share information on real-world issues, but they don't have to become 90% of the plot.

There are several developing relationships in Grey's Anatomy, with Link and Amelia welcoming a new child into their home, and between Maggie and Winston who were old colleagues. Chemistry is even evident between Jo and Jackson, which fans want to see grow into something more, because she deserves it after the way Alex Karev left her.

RELATED:Which Grey's Anatomy Character Is Your Soulmate, Based On Your Zodiac?

A single season won't be enough to cover all of the relationships and the paths they will take in the future, which is why it can't end. They all deserve a happily ever after, and right now Grey's Anatomy just isn't giving it to them.

Owen has gone through numerous breakups and failed marriages with Cristina Yang and Amelia Shepard, but now Teddy has even broken his heart.

Yes, Owen finally has the children he always wanted, although fans can't watch him lose another happy ending once again. They all thought that Teddy was the one and after her actions, they see her true colors and her feelings toward Owen.

New medical advancements are being made every day as doctors and scientists work hard to make the world a healthierplace. While the show has steered clear of featuring these, there are so many for it to choose from like artificial intelligence and VR technology to complete procedures.

It is part of why the show is so exciting, as they bring up hot topics and advancements that fans would otherwise know nothing about.

Only three members of the original cast are left, and they are Miranda Bailey, Richard Webber, and of course, Meredith Grey herself. Fans have watched characters die, move, or disappear into thin air as they choose to start a new life away from Seattle.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Most Memorable Patients, Ranked By Likability

The show has been around a long time and the remaining cast is growing in age, which means it might be time for them to retire and move on with their lives. Fans always knew there would be an end to their story and now seems like the perfect time to make that happen.

Meredith has three children of her own who would now be old enough to play a bigger part in the series, and even down the road. They haven't been used much at all, but there is always room for the show to grow by giving them bigger parts to play so Meredith can make more questionable parenting choices.

It is something that fans have been looking forward to for ages, and some even hope for a spin-off series to be made down the line, showing their own success in the medical field.

Alex Karev's storyline was ruined the moment that he left Jo without a single word and decided to start a new life with Izzie and their kids.

It tarnished his character's reputation, as there were so many other ways he could have left the show, and put a bad taste in fans' mouths, which is one they hope to never taste again. Unfortunately, it seems they are even doing the same thing with Teddy and her cheating scandal, and it goes to show that it needs to end before anyone else's storyline is changed for the worse.

Cristina Yang will never be forgotten despite her leaving after Season 10, and fans have been begging for her to make a return.

The actress behind this character, Sandra Oh, has stated she has left Grey's Anatomy far behind her, but fans are still holding onto this dream. The show can't end until she is convinced to make one more reappearance so the show can feel complete in the eyes of fans.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: The 5 Highest-Rated Episodes Before TR Knight’s Exit as George O’Malley, According To IMDb – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy is one of the longest-running shows on TV. As such, the medical dramas seen a reshuffling of stars through the years. Actors have been joining the cast and bidding farewell to the fictional Seattle hospital on and off since the early days of Greys Anatomy.

T.R. Knight, the actor who played Dr. George OMalley, made one of the most memorable exits from Greys Anatomy. An original surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, Knights departure meant his character would no longer be on screen with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), or Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl).

Although thered been behind-the-scenes drama involving Isaiah Washington (Dr. Preston Burke), the actor insisted it had nothing to do with his exit. Knight explained the reason he left during a 2009 interview with Entertainment Weekly.

My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George], he said. And with respect, Im going to leave it at that.

There just comes a time when its so clear that moving on is the best decision, he added.

Knights departure meant his character had to be written off somehow. Ultimately, the writers behind Greys Anatomy killed George off in a dramatic end to the shows fifth season.

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Osteoarthritis Therapeutics Market: Global Industry Trends, Share, Size, Growth, Opportunity and Forecast 2020-2025" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The global osteoarthritis therapeutics market grew at a CAGR of around 8% during 2014-2019.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a heterogeneous condition characterized by progressive degeneration of cartilage in joints of the knees, hips, hands, feet, spine, shoulders and neck. OA generally leads to stiffness, swelling, tenderness, persistent pain, loss of flexibility, grating sensation, bone spurs and sleep disturbances. It can be diagnosed using physical examination, X-ray, arthroscopy, joint fluid analysis, blood tests and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan.

Various medications and surgical procedures are prescribed as per the different results to alleviate the signs and symptoms of the disease. Currently, alternative medicines, physical therapies and supportive devices are available in the market to relieve pain and improve joint function.

Sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy dietary patterns and the rising prevalence of obesity and blood sugar are increasing the risk of developing OA among individuals. This, in confluence with the growing geriatric population, which is more susceptible to such ailments, represents one of the key factors impelling the market growth.

Apart from this, the easy access to MRI scans is acting as another major growth-inducing factor. Additionally, the development of imaging biomarkers based on radiographic features, coupled with the introduction of analgesic drugs, is contributing to the market growth.

Furthermore, rising investments in the research and development (R&D) activities to launch new diagnostics and biomarkers, along with the increasing expenditures on improving healthcare infrastructure, is also driving the market. Anatomy of Jayson Tatums missed game winner vs. Pacers – Celtics Blog

If youve become a fan of Brad Stevens after timeout wizardry, you know that so much happens before the inbounds pass. Al Horfords game winner in Game 3 against the 76ers in 2018 is the perfect example.

For Stevens, its not just about getting the ball in your best shooters hands at the end of the game. He tries to leverage everything against an opponents defense: tendencies, switching schemes, footwork, misdirection, etc. On Sunday night against the Pacers, Stevens had another chance to draw up something special.

Coming out of the timeout, you can see Pacers head coach Nate Bjorkgren motion to Malcolm Brogdon to switch the coverage. Initially, Indiana had Doug McDermott on Marcus Smart, but Bjorkgren calls for Aaron the tougher and rangier Justin Holiday to cover Smart and the less athletic McDermott to stick Payton Pritchard. For lack of a better word, if Smart is part of the inbound action, its going to be funky. Best to have one of your better defenders involved.

Theres a fun little wrinkle right before referee Kane Fitzgerald gives Grant Williams the ball. Check out the weak side with Pritchard and Jaylen Brown in the corner. A moment before starting the five-second count, Brown takes a few steps to his left, drawing the attention of T.J. Warren and McDermott. Its a tiny adjustment that means nothing, but it draws the attention of the defenders and that could be enough to show their hand on what kind of coverage theyre running or provide a small crack to take advantage of.

Heres the meat of the play. In his post game presser, Stevens said, we were looking for a little bit of action off of an entry where they were denying and it went to Tatum at the top.

Bjorkgren guessed right. The outcome of the play was Tatum flashing between the circles after a Marcus Smart down screen, but I dont think that was the first option. The little bit of action that Stevens is referencing is the two-man game between Smart and Tatum. Even before Grant touches the ball, Smart is telegraphing down screen the entire time. My guess is that Stevens and the Celtics were hoping for a switch with Holiday trailing Tatum to midcourt. If that had happened, Smart would have had Brogdon sealed on his back in the low post. Indiana was in the penalty and Smart has a knack of drawing contact on the block. Smart could have also cleared a driving lane for Tatum, too.

Unfortunately, Brogdon decides to fight through the screen and Domantas Sabonis does a great job pushing the action away from the basket. Smart is so far away from the restricted area and with the taller Holiday on him, its far from an advantageous mismatch.

Instead, Tatum took the same step back 3 that won the opener over Giannis Antetokounmpo with a different result.

We had that as an option (Tatum in isolation) and then Grant slipped out of that thing and Tatum got separation, but thats obviously a tough shot. But, he made it the other day, Steven said of the final shot, but frankly, he sounded resigned with the analysis. One of our best players and certainly one of the guys you want to have the ball with the game on the line in the league had the ball so that was a positive, I guess.

Tatum shouldered much of the responsibility for the loss. Thats a shot I take a lot and can hit, but you want to put pressure on the refs and defense in that situation, he admitted. It wasnt the exact play we drew up, but I should have put more pressure on them. Thats on me in that situation. I take full blame.

Sure, Tatum could have driven the ball and forced the issue. Its what stars do in that situation. However, by all indications, this was a busted play that just didnt break right in the end. Theyll get another crack against the Pacers on Tuesday night.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fans Are So Heartbroken Over the Latest Season 17 News – Yahoo Lifestyle

From The Pioneer Woman

After a nail-biting winter finale episode, Grey's Anatomy will not air a new season 17 episode on Thursday, December 24.

Much to the devastation of fans, the hit medical show will be taking a winter hiatus after airing a total of six episodes in season 17.

Grey's Anatomy will return to ABC on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Season 17 of Grey's Anatomy has already given us so many twists and turns: There's been jaw-dropping character returns, an intense COVID-19 storyline and even a major character's life in the balance. But just when things turned even more suspenseful in the latest episode, it turns out that the ABC medical show is taking a break starting this week which means, sadly, there will not be new episodes of Grey's Anatomy until early next year in March.

If it seems like the new season of Grey's just started, it's because it essentially has it only premiered in early November, and there's only been a total of six episodes since then! Needless to say, fans were devastated over the news especially as last week's episode ended with a major cliffhanger as we saw Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) getting put on the ventilator after her battle with COVID-19 took a turn for the worse.

"So youre telling me I have to wait till March to see if Meredith makes it??" one fan wrote on Twitter. "The fact that I have to wait until March to see what happens after the Grey's Anatomy winter finale, I'm livid," another tweeted.

Following last week's episode, which served as the show's winter finale, Grey's Anatomy is taking a hiatus for the winter season. Though the show has taken mid-season breaks before, this season's hiatus comes only after six episodes which is fairly early even considering the fact that season 17 will have a total of only 16 episodes, making it one of the shortest seasons in the show's history. Still, it's not unusual for shows to go on a hiatus during the holidays.

Story continues

Unfortunately, it'll be quite a while until we can reunite with the doctors over at Grey-Sloan (and find out what happens with Meredith!), as Grey's Anatomy will be returning on Thursday, March 4, 2021. As usual, the show will air on ABC during its timeslot of 9 p.m. ET.

In the meantime, I guess we'll just have re-watch all those emotional beach scenes over and over again while we patiently wait for Grey's to return!

The Anatomy of a Wild Finish – DolphinMaven

Ryan Fitzpatrick's "no-look pass" that helped the Miami Dolphins pull out their incredible victory at Las Vegas will go down as one of the most memorable plays in franchise history.

It's a play that deserves a deeper look, particularly considering all the layers involved, including an officiating mistake, a pre-planned strategy by the Dolphins, a controversial Raiders decision and, of course, help from a baffled Raiders secondary.

The record will show a 34-yard completion from Fitzpatrick to Mack Hollins plus a 15-yard facemask penalty on defensive end Arden Key that moved the ball from the Dolphins 25-yard line to the Raiders 26 and set up Jason Sanders' 44-yard game-winning field goal to secure Miami's 26-25 victory.

The Dolphins had the ball at their 25-yard line down by two with 19 seconds left and no timeouts remaining, and ESPN gave the Raiders a 99.9 percent win probability before "The Pass."

It was the 5,053th regular season pass of Fitzpatrick's NFL career and he said after the game his might have been the biggest of his career and we'll forgive him if he became a prisoner of the moment.

"I think the odds were pretty low there of us to be able to complete something with the proper yardage and not have to throw a Hail Mary but actually kick a field goal," Fitzpatrick said. "I didnt know that it was complete. As you guys saw, my facemask was getting pulled and my head was getting ripped off. I turned around to say, Hey, facemask, just to make sure they saw it. I think Jesse Davis, or maybe Myles (Gaskin) had to tell me that it was complete, but I didnt know that we completed it.

But before that play happened, there were a lot of interesting things that set the stage.

Of course, the Dolphins needed the miracle largely because of a fringe defensive pass interference penalty on cornerback Byron Jones. While, yes, Jones made contact with wide receiver Nelson Agholor, he hardly impeded his ability to make the catch, and it also was not as much contact as when Agholor pushed off on his 85-yard touchdown a few minutes earlier.

And that's not just us saying it.

That call put the Raiders in position to take the lead after they trailed 23-22 because kicker Daniel Carlson missed an extra-point attempt after Agholor's long touchdown.

And this is where we get to more interesting stuff.

We'll start with the officiating error.

On the first play after the two-minute warning, Josh Jacobs rushed for 2 yards to make it third-and-1 at the Dolphins 13-yard line. Miami called their second timeout on the play, though Raiders tackle Trent Brown was injured during the play and trainers came out to tend to him.

This is where the officiating mistake came in because the Dolphins should have gotten their timeout back because of the injury on the play, and it's the Raiders who should haven been charged with a timeout.

That extra timeout the Dolphins should have had would have made a big difference in the end and would have changed the way both teams played at the end of that possession.

Because the Dolphins were out of timeouts, the Raiders focused more on killing as much of the clock as possible even if it meant settling for a field goal and a two-point lead instead of trying to score a touchdown that would have made it 28-23 and would have led to a two-point conversion attempt.

The reason Raiders coach Jon Gruden chose that route is because he had flashbacks of Patrick Mahomes driving down the field for a game-winning touchdown after he left him too much time on the clock.

Again, would Gruden have gone for the touchdown if not for the missed PAT because then a simple extra point would have given them a seven-point lead?

In any event, the Dolphins were aware of what the Raiders were trying to do, which is why you saw defenders getting out of the way of Jacobs on the second-and-goal run from the 6. Jacobs, though, didn't want to score, which is why he slid at the 1-yard line.

"They were trying not to score, (and) yeah, we were trying to let them score," head coach Brian Flores. "At the end of the day, they were OK with taking the lead with 19 seconds, which obviously theres a high probability of winning given that situation, and we made a play at the end, a couple plays at the end. And again, like games in this league, they come down to one or two plays, but strategy-wise, I understand why they did what they did.

In essence, the Raiders preferred being up two with 19 seconds left instead of, say, being up six or seven with around a minute left.

Again, if not for the timeout mistake, it's almost certain the Raiders would have gone for the touchdown instead of opting to go up by two with around a minute left.

That obviously would have presented a different challenge for the Dolphins, who would have needed to drive 75 yards for a game-winning or game-tying touchdown depending on the two-point conversion attempt.

As it was, the Dolphins already were facing what seemed to be an insurmountable task.

Getting his facemask yanked from the side made it a pretty impressive throw by Fitzpatrick, whose pass wasn't necessarily a work of art but still got to a wide open Hollins near the sideline because the Raiders secondary somehow failed to account for him.

Even though Hollins rushed to get out of bounds, that became unnecessary because of the penalty called on the Raiders.

On the other end, Fitzpatrick had just added to the legend of "FitzMagic."

Even the king of the no-look pass had to acknowledge the brilliance of the moment.
