Sarah Vaughan had been thinking about abuse of power for several years before she sat down to write Anatomy of a Scandal, her bestselling book about sex and consent in the House of Commons.

Her years working as a journalist had convinced her the subject matter was important, but she had no idea quite how timely her novel would prove to be.

The book, a psychological thriller about a government minister who is accused of raping his parliamentary aide in a lift in the Commons, was published in January 2018, a few months after the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke in America, triggering the #MeToo movement, and the Pestminster allegations of inappropriate behaviour by some MPs.
